Earlier today we received an email, from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in regards to the ongoing moose situation on the Webb/Inlet Snowmobile Trail System.

"The moose is not showing clear signs of terminal illness nor severe distress, so DEC wildlife biologists do not believe euthanasia is appropriate at this time. However, DEC requests that the Town of Webb close that segment of trail 1 to protect the public and the moose. Moose are large and unpredictable animals that can cause severe injuries to people when approached even if they do not appear to be agitated."

The interaction between the public and local wildlife is of significant importance to the Town of Webb, and is treated with the utmost care and responsibility. In the interest of public safety, as well as the protection and well-being of this moose, the Town has authorized the temporary closure of this portion of Trail 1, as depicted below.

This action is being taken to minimize disturbance to the animal and reduce the potential for unsafe encounters involving members of the snowmobile community.

We appreciate the public’s understanding, cooperation, and continued respect for both community safety and wildlife conservation during this time.

❄️ Winter Wildlife Tips from North Country Wild Care 🐾

Winter can be a challenging time for wildlife, and a little extra care from us can go a long way in helping them thrive. Here are some tips to support our furry and feathered friends this season:

🌟 Keep bird feeders stocked: Food can be scarce in the winter, so keeping your feeders full of high-energy options like sunflower seeds, suet, and peanuts can provide essential nutrition.

🌟 Provide fresh water: When temperatures drop, natural water sources freeze. Offer a birdbath with a heater or check and replace unfrozen water frequently.

🌟 Limit salt use: De-icing salt can be harmful to animals. Opt for wildlife-safe alternatives like sand or non-toxic de-icers.

🌟 Secure trash bins: Wildlife searching for food may be drawn to unsecured garbage. Ensure lids are tight to prevent accidents or illness.

🌟 Check before you drive: In colder months, cats and small animals sometimes seek warmth under car hoods. Give a quick tap on the hood before starting your engine.

🌟 Don’t feed wildlife “people food”: Human snacks can be harmful or even deadly to animals. Let them stick to their natural diets.

🌟 Be mindful of injured wildlife: If you spot an animal in distress, contact our hotline at (518) 964-6740 for guidance on what to do.

Your small actions can make a big difference for the wildlife sharing our world. Thank you for caring! 💚

SUPPORT THE EVENT!! Even if you are closed, lets fill Inlet with Ice Sculptures.
Frozen Fire & Lights is 5 weeks away, and we have begun working on getting things ready for another great event!
We are working with The Ice Farm again to bring some ice sculptures to town and need business or individuals to help make this happen.
Let Adele (Inlet Information office) know as soon as possible if you would like an ice sculpture in front of your business, or if you would like to help pay for one to be placed somewhere in town.
