I Choose Life Health

I Choose Life Health A health initiative designed to address HIV/AIDS and other interrelated health issues among African Americans.

I Choose Life Health and Wellness Center (ICL) addresses the disparate impact and inequities of HIV within the African American community at-large as well as the heightened challenge faced by gay Black men by mounting a culturally competent communications strategy inclusive of Act Against AIDS (AAA) campaign materials, prevention messaging, and other CDC resources. Dissemination methods includes t

raditional, digital, and social media, as well as events which range the gamut from intimate community discussions to major national conferences. In addition, ICL maintains a strong emphasis on HIV testing, treatment, and linkage to and retention in care, and implements its efforts through leveraging its national network of ICL chapters as well as its broad and diverse team of strategic partners. The I Choose Life Health and Wellness Center is not a new-comer to the issue of HIV within the African American community. In fact, we’ve been in this space for well over two decades, working in the areas of HIV/AIDS education, testing, and linkage to care. Over the years, we’ve maximized our effectiveness by partnering with social, civic, political organizations, faith institutions, HBCU’s, health departments, AIDS Service Providers (ASO’s) and Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) across the country. The unique strength of ICL is our unparalleled credibility in the community, allowing us to be the bridge builder between grassroots constituencies, high-profile leaders, and major institutions, all working together to provide the information, testing and access to care that’s absolutely necessary to save lives.

June is Men’s Mental Awareness Month
It’s okay to ask for help.

It’s time to break the silence and challenge the stigma.
Your story matters. Your feelings are valid. It’s okay to ask for help.

Let’s create a world where vulnerability is strength.

This Black Maternal Health Month, we’re reminding the world of a basic truth: Black mothers deserve to have a positive, safe, and informed birth.

Too often, b lack women’s stories are overlooked and their lives are put at risk. It’s time to center Black voices, honor Black birth, and demand the care we deserve - from prenatal to postpartum. 🖤🖤

Happy 100th Birthday to our Beloved Brother Omowale El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz aka Malcolm X born on this day in 1925.

We honor a revolutionary who taught us Black liberation. Economic power is essential. Education is non-negotiable. Building our own is absolutely mandatory.

He knew that true freedom required more than protest it demanded institutions built for us, by us.
A century later, his message still hits home: if the system won’t make room for us, we build our own table
—with our own chairs, our own menus, and our own rules. And we feast.

Studies have shown that Black patients are 2-4 times more likely to have negative language used in their medical record due to bias/racism.

May is Mental Health Month. Black men
You’ve been taught to be strong. To hold it in
To push through the pain.

But silence shouldn’t be your survival strategy.
This month, let’s do something different:
Talk to a therapist.
Check in with your boys.
Take a break before you break down.
Strength isn’t in how much you carry-it’s in knowing when to put it down.

Black men deserve peace too.
