Frances P. Preece, 99, formerly of Kermit, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026. She was a resident at the Martin County Nursing Home in Inez, Kentucky. Born November 4, 1926, to Floyd and Ella Parsley, she was one of seven siblings.

Frances is survived by her son, Boyce “Bub” Preece II; and two grandchildren, Ryan Preece of Lexington, Kentucky, and Rebecca Preece of Richmond, Kentucky. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Witt of Virginia; and her longtime friend, Gail Ruble of Kermit.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rella Preece; two brothers; three sisters; and her longtime friend, E.P. “Biss” Stepp.

Frances was retired from the Mingo County school system and was a cherished member of the Kermit United Methodist Church. She loved her family dearly and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends may visit at the Warfield Chapel of the Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield, KY on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 7:00-9:00pm with special services at 7:30pm with Ronnie Pinson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.

Tayten Brian Drake Messer, of Lovely, KY, tragically passed away on August 28th, 2026 at the age of 19 years old.

Tayten was born on July 1st, 2007, to Ladonna and Tiney Messer. After Tayten graduated from Martin County High School in 2025, he went on to study Diesel Technology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Beyond his studies, Tayten enjoyed racing, working as a Mechanic, spending time with family and friends, driving around with his girlfriend, and playing with his animals. He was truly one of the most loved and special people in this world. He had a big heart and anyone who met him was lucky to have known him and experienced his love.

In 2020, Tayten met the love of his life, Keyera Maynard, whom he planned on marrying one day.

Tayten is survived by his parents, Donna and Tiney Messer; sisters Brooke (Dylan) James and Candice Messer (Jarred Blair); niece and nephews Dolly Hinkle, Cooper James, and Elijah Blair; maternal grandparents Judy and Mose Newsome; paternal grandmother Carol Marcum; girlfriend Keyera Maynard; and his hamster, Jethro.

Funeral services will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the Southside Freewill Baptist Church in Paintsville, KY with Tim York officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Tuesday from 6:00-9:00pm and Wednesday from 4:00-9:00pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.

Judy Gail Belcher Maynard, age 68, of Dunlow, West Virginia, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 16, 2026.

Judy was born as the winter was warming up into a promise of spring on April 15, 1958. She was the blessing of the Late James and Gertrude Block Belcher. Judy enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in a large family and with 9 siblings she never got lonely. At the young age of 19, Judy became the blushing bride of the late Harry Truman Maynard. Together the two shared 36 cherished years of marriage before his passing in 2013.

Judy found her greatest joy in the simple things in life and was happiest outdoors, tending to her flowers and caring for her yard. When she was indoors, Judy enjoyed watching the news, Shepherds chapel Bible study hour, Criminal Minds, and other investigative television programs. Judy never had an unkind word to say about anyone and will be fondly remembered for her infectious laugh and caring nature. She was a beautiful example of a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. Judy poured her heart into caring for her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and the time she spent with them brought her immeasurable happiness.

In the hills of Martin county Kentucky Columbus Chaffins was born in the midst of the great depression those tough beginnings would help forge a man who would fall in love with a woman from West Virginia raise four boys into men with that very same woman and work just about any job he could as long he was his own boss. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging roots such as ginseng not for fun either but for the ability to feed a family. He also loved telling stories about his family, friends and experiences in life occasionally framed as a lesson on what not to do. He unknowingly created a legacy in the simplest of ways by teaching his boys how to hunt and fish who taught his grandchildren who are teaching his great grandchildren. For that and many other things he will be remembered.

Johnie D. Damron, 66, of Summers Fork Road, passed away on August 2, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born in Michigan on January 19, 1960 to the late William M. Damron and Amanda Okulich Damron.

Johnie is survived by his son, Ryan Damron of Long Beach, California; and one brother, William Damron of Cross, West Virginia.

At his request, Johnie will be directly cremated. There will be no formal funeral service. Callaham Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Loraine Blair Mullins, 83, of Lenore, WV, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at her home in Laurel Creek, WV. She was born in Laurel Creek, WV, on September 30, 1941, to the late Morrie Blair and Virgie Brewer Blair. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Tom” Mullins, her granddaughter, Brittany Shan Mullins, and her son, Robert Paul Mullins. Loraine, along with her husband William “Tom” Mullins, owned and operated Mullins Cable T.V. Loraine also worked for Western Electric in Columbus, Ohio, and for Mingo County Schools. She was a member of The Little Dove United Baptist Church.
Loraine is survived by one daughter, Loretta (George) Maynard of Georgetown, KY, and one son, William (Dawn) Mullins of Lenore, WV, along with three grandchildren, Tommy Mullins, Kaitlyn Cheek, and Gabriel Maynard, and five great-grandchildren, Briley Duncan, Alexis Duncan, Bryson Duncan, Lauren Helsel, and Joji Maynard III. She is also survived by one sister, Thelma Jean Evans.
Extended family includes Tina Stanley, Demarcum and Molly Henderson, and their children Marley, Malcom, and Monique "Mo".

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Warfield Chapel of the Callaham Funeral Home with Jimmy Maynard officiating. Friends may visit at the Chapel on Wednesday starting at 11:00 am until the time of services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.

Melinda Endicott Moore 66, of Debord, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on January 16, 1960, in Martin County, Kentucky, Melinda was the daughter of the late James Roy Endicott and Pauline Marcum Endicott.

Melinda dedicated much of her life to serving others and her community. She worked with Martin County Head Start, where she touched the lives of many children and families throughout the community. She was also a devoted member of the Martin County REACT & Rescue Squad for more than 40 years, faithfully serving as secretary. Her commitment to helping others and serving her community was an important part of who she was.

Melinda is survived by her loving husband, Pete Darwen Moore of Debord, Kentucky; two sons, Pete D. Moore Jr. and Ryan Alexander (Nikki) Moore both of Debord, Kentucky and her cherished grandchildren, Hannah Moore, Emma Moore, Chase Moore, Ryan Hunter Moore, Lindsay Moore, Pete D. Moore III, Chloe Moore, Waylon Breed, Lorieli Winfree, and Mallory Reed.

She is also survived by three siblings: Rex (Wanda) Endicott, Bobby Jo (Bernice) Endicott, and Danny (Coleen) Endicott.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jimmy Endicott, Bruce Endicott, Carl Endicott, James Roy Endicott Jr., Robert Endicott, Dale Endicott, and Charlene Endicott.

Mary Margaret Adams, age 87, passed away surrounded by family July 29, 2026. Mary was born to the late Graham Turner and Grace (Decoursey) Dixon October 14, 1938 in Wayland Kentucky. Mary married Larry Adams December 24, 1956. Mary is preceded in death by parents; husband of 62 years, Larry Adams; grandson, Benjamin Delong; great-grandson, Noah Lear.

Mary is survived by children, Paula (Ernie) Delong, JoAnne (Mark) Griffin, Teresa Adams, Larry Glenn (Julie) Adams, Carolyn (Troy) Rayborn; grandchildren, Amanda (John) Horn, Tyson (Elisa) Griffin, Tate (Melissa) Griffin, Jessica (James) Pahl, Ashton (Stefan) Boya, Heather Adams, Michael Dewiel, Kristin Adams, Brooke Adams, Sydney Rayborn; sisters, Kathryn Sautter and Jackie (Clint) Cleveland; 16 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda Chute, Judy Haverstein, and Jeanette Walker.

Mary enjoyed spending most of her days with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and most of all a "Ma-Maw". She crocheted and for many years was a seamstress, making a lot of the clothing her children would wear growing up. Mary was an avid reader, even subscribing to the Doubleday Book Club, and she always kept busy, going to kids and grandkids sporting events. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Born on May 28, 1982, to Woodrow and Edwina Dillon, Claudine was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was known for her kind heart, unwavering strength, and deep love for her family. Above all, she loved and adored her precious daughter, KyLee, who was the greatest joy of her life. Claudine was endlessly proud of the remarkable young woman KyLee had become and cherished every accomplishment, milestone, and dream she pursued. Her love for KyLee was unconditional, unwavering, and evident in everything she did. To her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as "Aunt Roo," a title she wore with pride and love. She treasured every moment spent with those she loved and never missed an opportunity to make lasting memories with her family.

Throughout her life, Claudine overcame countless obstacles with remarkable courage and determination. She was the strongest fighter her family had ever known. Lawrence E. Lockwood, 87, of Warfield, Kentucky, passed away on July 26, 2026. Born on March 19, 1939, Lawrence was the son of the late Ray and Faye Lockwood. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, he faithfully served his country before dedicating many years of hard work as a coal miner. Lawrence was a man known for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and deep devotion to his family.

Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Fields Lockwood, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories. He is also survived by his sons, Stephen (Rebecca) Lockwood of Van Lear, Kentucky, and Chris (Mary) Lockwood of Cincinnati, Ohio; his beloved grandchildren, Mahala Ward, Garrett Lockwood, Jacob Lockwood, and Sarah Lockwood; his brother, Ronnie (Romana) Lockwood; his sister, Barbara (Howard) Copley; along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory. He was also blessed with a host of brothers and sisters-in-law that he loved and cared for very much.

Though Lawrence’s life was marked by hard work and humble service, he will be remembered most for the love he shared with his family, the example he set through dedication and integrity, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
