The Sunflower County EMA works with the citizens, community organizations and units of local governments in Sunflower County on issues related to preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery to and from natural or man-made disasters and other critical incidents and is responsible for reporting all damages from disasters and other critical incidents to MEMA and the National Weather Service and f

or requesting the needed resources from the State before, during and after a disaster. The EMA consists of emergency management, county fire, storm spotters, floodplain management and emergency medical first responders and operates with one fulltime Director with the assistance of numerous important and valuable volunteers.

A DSA (Disaster Survivor Assistance Center) will be open starting Monday, May 18, 2026 through Friday, May 22, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and will be located at 15 Terminal Dr, Indianola (old National Guard Armory). On Saturday, May 23, 2026, the DSA will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Moorhead Fire Station, 510 South Southern Avenue, Moorhead. This is for anyone who had damage during the ice storm. Representatives from FEMA will be there to assist in the application process if needed.

..STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN SUNFLOWER...LEFLORE AND NORTH CENTRAL HUMPHREYS COUNTIES THROUGH 1015 PM CDT...

At 918 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Blaine, or near Ruleville, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

This strong thunderstorm will be near... Sunflower and Blaine around 925 PM CDT. Schlater around 930 PM CDT. Itta Bena around 935 PM CDT. Greenwood and Quito around 945 PM CDT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR Arcola, Isola, Hollandale and
Belzoni.

HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect
considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.
Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.
