When the going gets tough, Marines get tougher.🥾💢

On August 1st, Marines from Recruiting Sub-Station Columbus, Indiana, stepped out of the office and into the mud at the Indiana Tough Mudder Spartan Race.

Throughout the 15K race, participants face a brutal course designed to test strength, endurance, determination, and teamwork through mud pits, steep climbs, walls, water obstacles, and physically demanding challenges that push competitors well outside their comfort zones.

Our Marines embraced every obstacle the course threw at them, pushing through the exhaustion, getting dirty, and refusing to quit.

Following the severe storms that impacted Northwest Indiana, Marines from Marine Corps Recruiting Sub-Station Crown Point have been assisting local families, poolees, and community members with cleanup and recovery efforts.

One of the families the Marines assisted was a Lake Station family whose home suffered extensive damage after a large tree fell through the house during the storm. The damage left debris throughout the home and destroyed much of the family’s belongings and furniture.

Marines responded on multiple days to help the family begin the cleanup process. On the first day, they cut and removed portions of the fallen tree, moved debris to the curb, and helped clear damaged materials from inside the home. The Marines returned a second day to continue assisting the family by removing furniture and other damaged belongings from the house.

The first family the Marines assisted following the storm was connected to a local church, and since then the Marines have continued looking for opportunities to help wherever they are needed. They have also checked on and assisted poolees and their families who were affected by the storm, as well as other members of the surrounding community.

For the Marines of RSS Crown Point, the effort has been about more than simply cleaning up storm damage. It has been an opportunity to support the communities they serve and help neighbors during a difficult time.

“When something like this happens in our community, we want to be there to help,” said Sgt. Agustin Gutierrez, Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of RSS Crown Point. “Our Marines live and work in these communities. If there is someone who needs a hand, we are going to do what we can to help.”

⚔️Carrying the Torch⚔️

On June 3, 2026, Marine Corps Recruiting Station Indianapolis held a Change of Command Ceremony, during which Major Michael D. Krueger relinquished command to Major Austin A. Duke.

Steeped in Marine Corps tradition, the ceremonial passing of the organizational colors from the Sergeant Major to the outgoing commanding officer, and then to the incoming commanding officer, symbolizes the formal transfer of authority and responsibility. This time-honored tradition signifies the continuity of leadership and unwavering commitment to mission accomplishment.

During his tenure from June 2023 to June 2026, Major Krueger led RS Indianapolis through a pivotal period, guiding the command beyond the challenges of the post-COVID recruiting environment while strengthening its ability to accomplish the mission and serve communities throughout the region. His leadership, dedication, and commitment have left a lasting impact on the station and its Marines.

As the colors pass to Major Duke, RS Indianapolis proudly welcomes him and his family to the command. We look forward to the leadership, vision, and continued success he will bring as he assumes responsibility for recruiting the next generation of Marines.
