What happens when a mental health crisis call comes in… and who responds?

Join us for our next IMPD East District Task Force Meeting as we welcome the Mobile Crisis Assistance Team (MCAT) as our featured guest speaker.

MCAT will talk with community members about the work they do throughout Indianapolis, including how they respond to mental health crises, when MCAT is available, what types of calls they do and don’t respond to, and how their clinician partnered response programing works.

📅 Wednesday, August 12
⏰ 6:00 PM
📍 IMPD East District – 201 N. Shadeland Ave.

And as always, our East District CRU Officers will be in the room. Have a neighborhood concern? A question about something happening on your block? Bring it with you and talk directly with the officers who work in your community.

This meeting is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and all community members are welcome.

Come with questions. Come meet your officers. Come learn about another resource working right here in our community.

And yes… we’ll have the Eastside-famous hot dogs ready too. 🌭😎

We’ll see you August 12!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! 🍦🍨

We delivered a little kindness… and a whole lot of smiles to the Near Eastside.

IMPD East District teamed up with our community partners from “Kindness Delivered” to host a Pop-Up Ice Cream Social, serving more than 200 community members with free ice cream.

It was more than just a sweet treat. It was an opportunity to connect with our neighbors, share conversations, build relationships, and continue strengthening the partnership between the police and the community we serve.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, and a special thank you to Kindness Delivered for helping make another great community event possible.

Good times, great connections, and an outstanding community.

Our annual IMPD East District Community Day was another great success!

With more than 60 community partners setting up booths, hundreds of community members coming out to meet their East District officers, and dozens of IMPD officers volunteering their time to engage with the neighborhoods they serve, Brookside Park was filled with smiles, conversations, and plenty of fun.

A special thank you to our partners at Kindness Delivered and Walmart for sponsoring this year’s event. Because of their generosity, we were able to keep everyone fed with our Eastside-famous hot dogs 🌭 and hydrated throughout the afternoon… making for a perfect day in the park.

We also want to thank every organization, volunteer, and officer who helped make the day possible. Community partnerships like these are what make the East District so special.

Missed Community Day? No worries… we’ll see you soon!

IMPD Officers Work Together to Take Armed Suspect into Custody

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, IMPD East District officers responded to the intersection of 10th Street and Emerson Avenue on the report of a person passed out in the driver’s seat of a car. When officers arrived, they found the car in the middle of the roadway, still in drive. Officers saw a shotgun right next to the unconscious driver. Officers, with assistance from Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) detectives, tactically positioned their police vehicles to prevent the driver from rolling into the busy intersection. Working together, officers made announcements over an in-car public address system, but the male did not wake up or respond. The IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team responded and utilized a ballistic shield to safely take the driver into custody.

Officers recovered a loaded 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, over 11 grams of suspected Fentanyl, 3 grams of ma*****na, and over 2 grams of co***ne in the driver’s possession.

The driver was determined to be a serious violent felon and habitual offender due to previous convictions. He was arrested on the preliminary charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of co***ne, possession of ma*****na, and possession of a controlled substance. As with any individual, the male should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
