Not exactly sure how the reported cost nearly doubled in this announcement, but we hope Labrador is able to save many lives with their new EVOlution rescue hovercraft!

🚨 Equipment Announcement: New Hovercraft Enhances Emergency Response 🚨

We are proud to announce the arrival of a brand-new hovercraft for the Fire Department, a major investment in community safety and emergency preparedness. This specialized piece of equipment will play a vital role for rapid deployment in water rescue operations.

The total cost of the hovercraft was approximately $98k. We are incredibly grateful to Rio Tinto Iron Ore Company of Canada - Compagnie minière IOC for their generous contribution of $40,000 and to Volunteer Fire Department Association, who raised $10,000 through local fundraising efforts. The Town of Labrador City covered the remainder.

This initiative demonstrates the positive outcomes that can be achieved through strong partnerships between municipal services, industry stakeholders, and the community.

Fire Prevention Week - otherwise known as my favorite time of the year 🔥

Labrador City Fire Rescue hosted an open house tonight, giving our community the opportunity to come meet us, see our Fire Department, and learn more about what we do.

After 30 years with this department, 15 as Fire Chief and 4 as President of Newfoundland & Labrador Association of Fire Services - this week is very close to my heart.

I will never stop working for a safer Labrador West, from school kids learning to stop, drop, and roll to seniors feeling confident with the use of an AED.

2021 has been a ridiculously busy year for us. We've accumulated a number of used hovercraft here at the shop but have been so busy building new ones we haven't had the time to touch anything else. That changes now with the first few machines listed in a whole new "pre-owned" section. More listings will be coming as we work through our inventory!

Got a surprise visit from our TV star buddy Rick Gendreau today. It was great to catch up and chat with one of the guys from that experience. If you didn't already see the show, we had a lot of fun building an insane jet turbine powered DeLorean hovercraft in 5 days. I'm still amazed by what the team pulled off in such a short time!

Look, a pallet full of unicorns!

Seriously though, never in my career have I ever seen anything like the world market we're in today. Almost every industry is struggling with supply chain issues. Fab shops are struggling to get metal. Marine distributors can't keep anything in stock so rather than buying in bulk as usual, we're snatching a handful of each item as they become available. The big block Vanguards we use, the "unicorns" in this photo, are in short supply and prices have skyrocketed. Anything that involves shipping is difficult because there is a huge shortage of truck drivers, shipping containers, train capacity, you name it. Again, prices have skyrocketed. The list goes on and on.

So, if you know a small business owner be sure to buy them a beer or at least extend a bit more patience that you might normally do. They may put on a happy face but they're probably pulling their hair out behind the scenes.

If, on the other hand, that business owner is someone who has to buy a lot of lumber, well, the safest thing might be to avoid them entirely for now. Just send a fruit basket... if you can find one in stock. 🤪
