With 1400 acres of water and 3900 acres of forest, Eagle Creek Park is one of the largest city parks in the nation, offering unmatched opportunities for exploration, enjoyment, and discovery of nature only minutes from downtown Indianapolis. Eagle Creek Park is part of the City of Indianapolis, Indy Parks and Recreation. The Ornithology Center is one of two nature centers in the park open to the p

ublic, the other being the Earth Discovery Center. The Ornithology Center is unique because it focuses on ornithology, the study of birds! Although you can come to the Ornithology Center to ask a naturalist about the trails, programs, and natural history of the entire park, we specialize in the birds of the Midwest and birding in Indiana. Visit our building to see beautiful exhibits, relax in our wildlife observation areas, and learn about the birds of Eagle Creek Park! The Ornithology Center is also home to several permanently injured, non-releasable birds of prey or raptors including hawks, vultures, falcons, and owls. If you love our birds and would like to help take care of them, PLEASE DONATE at https://eaglecreekpark.org/product/adopt-a-raptor/

In addition to our seasonal public programs (found at indyparks.org), both park nature centers offer environmental education field trips and private programming for schools, scouts, families, teachers, and other groups. Call 317-327-2473 to schedule your own program today!

Update 8/7: You can drive on the main entrance driveway! :)

Update 8/4: the entrance driveway is still closed! The plumber found the leak and still need more repairs to be done before they can finish the road for drivers. Thanks for your patience!

The entrance driveway of the Ornithology Center is currently closed for construction. A plumber is on-site today to repair a leaking pipe beneath our main entrance road. Visitors are encouraged to park near the OC at the 71st gate, along the fitness trail, or at Lilly Lake and walk to the center if possible.

For those needing to drive in, access is still available via the south exit driveway (which usually operates as a one-way). This allows entry to the ADA parking spaces. Please exercise caution when driving through the one-way driveway, as it is narrow and has blind corners. Thank you for your understanding.
