Behind the scenes, innovation is helping keep electricity affordable and reliable. This summer, WVPA's Substation Battery Program has successfully dispatched stored energy during hot afternoons when electricity demand is highest. Batteries recharge overnight when energy demand and market prices are lower, helping reduce costs while supporting reliability.

By storing and delivering energy closer to where it's needed, we're helping create value for member co-ops and the communities they serve.

Every great career starts with an opportunity to learn and grow.

This summer, Wabash Valley Power Alliance interns are gaining hands-on experience, building professional connections, and learning firsthand how electric cooperatives serve communities. Through meaningful projects, mentorship, and industry exposure, they're developing skills that will serve them long after their internship ends.

Several former interns have even joined the WVPA team as staff, proving that today's internships can lead to tomorrow's careers.

Longtime businesses help communities thrive, and strong partnerships help them grow.

When McGrew’s Well Drilling set out to build a new facility, Fulton County REMC and Wabash Valley Power Alliance stepped in with energy efficiency support through a Power Moves rebate. That investment helped the fifth-generation family business reduce costs while building a space designed for future growth.

From installing new service to guiding rebate opportunities, this project shows how we partner with our member co-ops to support local businesses, strengthen operations, and drive economic development across the communities we serve.

What happens when a cooperative has financial success beyond what it needs to operate and invest for the future?

At an electric cooperative, that success can be returned to the members who helped create it through patronage capital.

In this month's column, Jeff explores how patronage capital reflects the heart of the cooperative business model and why returning value to member cooperatives is one of the most meaningful ways we measure success.
