Commanders Thoughts

I had the honor and privilege of spending 24 years in the Navy, retiring as a Chief Journalist and transitioned to Government service working at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) to complete my career.

While in the service, and also at DFAS, I worked with all branches of the service. One of the things I found in common was the sense of comradeship we all shared together.

Our Navy Club shares that same sense of comradeship, we all dedicated ourselves to serving our nation. That is something to be proud of and while we may have come from different services, we are all one military family.

In that same spirit, our Navy Club welcomes all service members to join us as full members. We honor the traditions and memories of all our shipmates, no matter if you were Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Space Force.

Who are we?

The Navy Club of the USA was congressional chartered in 1938, making it one of the oldest military clubs in the U.S. (the oldest was chartered in 1888 in Cincinnati).

Originally open to the sea services (Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines) with other services admitted as associate members, the club changed membership to include all services in 2024.

USS Indianapolis Navy Club Ship 35 was established in 2002 and meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of VFW Post 261 located in Lawrence.

We are honored to share the USS Indianapolis name and dedicated to supporting Veteran’s causes in Indianapolis, currently with the Homeless Veteran’s and Families (HVAF) organization downtown.

We welcome anyone interested in our activities to join us at a meeting either in-person or virtually or contact the Ship through the contact link below if you’d like more information.
