Great morning for a foot patrol on the Monon Trail, and a sampling from one of the many fine coffee establishments in Broad Ripple!

As a reminder to cyclists, only Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are allowed on the Monon Trail. Class 3 e-bikes (pedal assist up to 28 mph) are prohibited. All bicyclists should decrease speed and operate courteously in pedestrian heavy areas. Similarly, letโ€™s not walk 3 people wide and take up the whole trail! The Monon Trail is a great resource to be enjoyed by all.

July Officer of the Month

Congratulations to Officer Jacob Liebhauser, our North District Officer of the Month for July 2026!

Officer Liebhauserโ€™s initiative, attention to detail, and commitment to seeking the truth played a critical role in preserving key evidence and advancing an important investigation involving a child.

His actions went above and beyond expectations and exemplified the highest standards of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Thank you, Officer Liebhauser, for your dedication and service to our community!

IMPD North District would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the American Legion Broad Ripple Post #3 for their continued support and generous donations to our North District officers.

Last week, IMPD joined the Brightwood - Forest Manor Community Center and several other public safety stakeholders on a community safety walk in the neighborhood. We heard from neighbors about several concerns including: speeding vehicles on E 34th St, vacant homes with squatters, and gun shots fired in the area.

North District officers began following up on those concerns, and conducted speed enforcement in the 4400 block of E 34th St. In this 35 mph zone, multiple vehicles were cited for speed, including one driver going 73 mph!

We'll continue working on the concerns voiced by neighbors. We appreciate the partnership and dialogue to make Martindale-Brightwood and Forest Manor a safer place for everyone!

Flooding across Indianapolis is creating road access challenges for everyone โ€“ including first responders and clean-up crews. If your vehicle is parked in a way that blocks the roadway, please move it as soon as possible. We do not want to issue tickets or tow vehicles, but emergency crews and construction equipment must be able to get through to help those affected and begin cleaning up.

The area most affected by this is the area of N Ralston and Crittenden between 69th and 75th Streets.

Thank you for your cooperation as our city continues recovery efforts. Stay safe, Indy.

โš ๏ธ FLOOD RESPONSE UPDATE โš ๏ธ

Indy DPW will begin the process of opening the flood gates in the Opti Park area of Broad Ripple at Noon. This process is anticipated to take several hours. Check back here for further updates on completion.

Indy DPW Stormwater Engineering continues to monitor water levels on the Cityโ€™s south side at Wicker Road approaching Tibbs Avenue from the west.

DPW data indicates the levels are slowly receding. Engineering will closely monitor our flood-control infrastructure (levees, control gates, etc.) to ensure it continues to operate as anticipated. Crews are working to clear debris blockages of natural flow and monitor flood gates. As the water levels recede, crews will continue to complete regular checks on infrastructure, and make further determinations on additional gate openings.

Current weather forecasts from the National Weather Service in Indianapolis indicate potential for light scattered showers across the county on Sunday. The impacts of this rainfall on the current flooding are difficult to predict, but at this time not expected to have significant impact.

Use caution if out. We continue to urge residents to follow the City of Indianapolis, Indy DPW, and MESA on social media and to text INDYFLOOD26 to 67283 to receive text updates on the flood response. Visit https://www.indy.gov/activity/stormwater for additional information.

Please do not enter the area to sightsee, take photos, or check on flooding. This can put you at risk and interfere with emergency personnel and staff responding to the situation.

Stay away and stay safe!
