The Decatur Township Civic Councilmeets tonight, Monday, May 18, beginning at 7 PMin the Community Room of the Decatur Township School for Excellence. Click here for map : https://www.decaturtownship.org/map

Guest Speaker : none

There are two land use issues to come to the membership for consideration and a vote.
6801 Stanley Rd -- Claudia and Jose Aboytes, represented by Dave Gilman, seeks to split the lot into a 0.5 acre and a 1.5 acre lot. A 5000 sq ft house would be built on the larger lot and that would legalize an existing barn that is too large and too tall. The existing house would be enlarged to 1200 sq ft to meet the D3 standards. They also seek a variance to legally establish the existing detached garage which is 5.6 ft from the lot line when 6 ft is required.
7323 S Mooresville Rd -- Redwood Apartment Neighborhoods, represented by Joe Csikos, seeks to rezone 20 acres from D-A to D-6 to allow for 99 one-story apartments.

Not a member of the Civic Council ? Membership is still $5 per person. You must be a resident of Decatur Township who is at least 18 years old to become a member. New members must wait 45 days before they can vote. Details can be found here: http://decaturtownship.org/members.htm

Petitions that will be discussed:

3801 Stanley Rd -- Claudia and Jose Aboytes, represented by Dave Gilman, seeks to split the lot into a 0.5 acre and a 1.5 acre lot. A 5000 sq ft house would be built on the larger lot and that would legalize an existing barn that is too large and too tall. We will also have a meeting on May 21 - same time and place

6501 MannRd -- Kittle Property Group, represented by Joe Calderon, seeks to rezone 23 acres for apartments. This is a refiling of a similar (if not identical) petition that was withdrawn last year. We do not yet have any specifics.

Decatur Residents File Court Action to Stop Sabey Data Center

On Friday, April 17, 2026, the Decatur Township Civic Council joined with neighbors Jan & Tim McWhirter, Loueva, Chuck & Leslie Young, Pat Andrews & Russ Glashan to ask for Judicial Review of the Metropolitan Development Commission (MDC) grant of Variance that allows a Sabey data center in Decatur Township.

This is the first data center approved by the MDC without the ability of residents to appeal to the full City-County Council, and the first to be taken to Court in Marion County/Indianapolis. The group hired Arie Lipinski of Lipinski Law to pursue the Court action.

As we are a working-class community, our financial resources are slender. Along with the Protect Decatur Township group, the Decatur Township Civic Council is actively requesting donations for our fight.
