The Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award Committee is seeking nominations for books to be put on next year’s Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award ballot. The purpose of the award is to encourage parents, caregivers and very young children to interact with exceptional picture books. Each year, children aged 0-5 are encouraged to vote for one of six nominated titles.

The committee is seeking nominations for books that demonstrate three or more of the five practices of Every Child Ready to Read: reading, writing, talking, singing and playing. Books should have text that supports the illustrations, or a compelling narrative provided by the illustrations. Books published between January 2025 and June 2026 that are still in print and possess strong appeal to children are eligible. There should also be an effort to include Indiana authors or illustrators.

This year, the nomination process is open to everyone, not just librarians. Nominations close on Sunday, Nov. 1. Nominations - book title and author - should be sent via email to the Indiana Center for the Book. [email protected]
