Indiana State Health Insurance Assistance Program - SHIP

Indiana State Health Insurance Assistance Program - SHIP SHIP provides free, impartial information to help consumers make decisions regarding health insurance options related to Medicare.

We strive to help Medicare beneficiaries get the most value for their Medicare health insurance dollars. The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides free impartial health insurance information for seniors and pre-retirees. SHIP is part of a federal network of State Health Insurance Assistance Programs located in every state. In Indiana, SHIP is sponsored by the Administration on

Community Living and the Indiana Department of Insurance. SHIP is not affiliated with any insurance company or agency and does not sell insurance. SHIP is staffed by a crew of volunteer counselors who have completed an intensive four-day training course and are certified by the IDOI. Regular training updates keep them current with the most recent changes in Medicare and other health care insurance options. SHIP counselors are committed volunteers who offer you free and objective assistance in complete confidence.

Fall Open Enrollment is just around the corner. By September 30, Medicare Advantage and Part D plans should send members an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) and an Evidence of Coverage (EOC).
These documents explain important changes to costs, provider networks, and prescription drug coverage for the upcoming plan year. Understanding these notices can help people with Medicare make informed coverage decisions during Open Enrollment.
Be ready for the Medicare Open Enrollment Period! Call SHIP to find a site near you! (800) 452-4800 or go to Medicare.in.gov!

If you have Medicare drug coverage, and live in an area that's been declared an emergency or disaster, contact your plan for help:
Finding an in-network pharmacy nearby. An in-network pharmacy is a pharmacy that agrees to provide members of certain Medicare plans with services and supplies at a discounted price. In some Medicare plans, your prescriptions are only covered if you get them filled at in-network pharmacies.
Replacing lost or damaged drugs or replacing a drug you couldn’t take with you when you evacuated.
Getting drugs at an out-of-network pharmacy when you can't reasonably get to an in-network pharmacy.
