Did you know there are multiple types of bail bonds issued in Marion County?

A ‘cash bond’ must be posted using the full amount of the bond. For example, a judge orders a $500 cash bond, so the person bailing the defendant out of jail must post the full $500. Once the case is resolved, a cash bond can be refunded if there are no fees, fines, and/or restitution owed.

A ‘surety bond’ is 10 percent of the total bond ordered in a case and must be posted with a licensed bail agent. For example, a judge orders a $1,000 surety bond. A person would give 10 percent, or $100, to a licensed bondsman. The bondsman then posts bail with the court on your behalf. This type of bond is not refundable.
