On Monday, 307 families visited Mid-North Food Pantry the highest number we have ever served in a single day.
Before we even opened our doors at 10 a.m., 87 families were already waiting.
That number says a lot about what our neighbors are facing right now.
Decreased SNAP enrollment, the impact of recent flooding, rising costs, and increased food insecurity all appear to be contributing to the surge. While some of these circumstances may be temporary, we anticipate that the higher level of need at our pantry will continue.
More families means more food leaving our shelves, more work for our volunteers, and more resources needed to make sure every neighbor who comes through our doors is served with dignity.
