A Day That Called a Generation to Serve

Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognize the extraordinary courage shown by first responders, service members, and everyday citizens who stood up in a moment of tragedy. We are grateful for all who continue to serve and protect our communities and our nation.

As we remember the impact of that day, we invite you to take a moment for reflection. If you’re in Indianapolis, consider visiting the 9/11 Monument on the Canal—a place dedicated to remembrance, resilience, and unity.

IDVA District Service Officers remain committed to building communities of care through connection, ensuring all Hoosier Veterans know they are not alone.

Recently, in Bartholomew and Jefferson County more than 150 Veterans including surviving spouses, caregivers and family members received resources and benefits designed to promote su***de prevention and awareness.

Yesterday, the Enduring Promise ceremony was held at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

The Indiana State, DAR, the Indiana War Memorials Foundation and the Bricklayer Apprenticeship - BAC 4 IN/KY Apprenticeship & Training Program were instrumental in completing this two-year project honoring WWII service members still Missing in Action.

Following the ceremonies, a wreath was placed over the Bricks paying tribute to Hoosier MIAs from the Vietnam War, Korean War, and now WWII.

We remain committed to honoring and supporting Hoosier Veterans, and our promise to them will never waver.

IDVA proudly hosted this year’s Innovations Conference as part of the Governor’s and Mayor’s Challenge to strengthen support for Service Members, Veterans, and their Families.

Director Jake Adams and Chief of Staff Gabrielle Owens joined a panel led by Engagement Director Joe Devito, to discuss strengthening systems and partnerships with SAMHSA experts, CCBHC professionals, and state leaders.

Team members shared strategies, partnership models and cross‑system approaches to support Veteran‑informed care—boosting military cultural awareness, expanding collaboration, and reducing barriers to behavioral health resources.

Executive Director Tim Winslow was honored to speak at the Tunnel to Towers Foundation ceremony at the Indiana War Memorials last week.

As the nationwide Steel Across America tour stopped in Indianapolis, this meaningful visit marked Stop #31 on a 37‑city tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11. At the heart of the event was a powerful artifact: a 21‑foot, 16,900‑pound steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center’s South Tower.

We are grateful to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for bringing this symbol of resilience and remembrance to our Hoosier community.

Director Jake Adams was honored to join a panel at the America’s Warrior Partnership Symposium in Washington, D.C., where leaders discussed community‑driven solutions to support Veterans nationwide.

Veterans live in every type of community — tribal nations, rural areas, frontier regions, and major cities. Each require a different approach, but the mission stays the same: helping Veterans and their families thrive.

Today, we celebrated the reopening of the historic Soldiers and Sailors Monument located in the heart of Indianapolis. The observation deck offers a stunning skyline view of the city from 231 feet above street level.

We were honored to have Governor Mike Braun join us for this memorable moment as we continue our commitment to honoring Hoosier Veterans and preserving the legacy of their service.

Severe flooding in Indiana has displaced many Hoosiers, including Veterans and their families.

To support those affected, IDVA has launched the MFRF Disaster Flood Emergency (DFE) program.

The DFE delivers short‑term financial assistance to qualified individuals displaced from their homes and in need of temporary housing, helping families stay safe during this challenging time. The program runs through Sept. 13.
