With historic flooding continuing across Central Indiana and evacuations underway in parts of Indianapolis, we wanted to put together a simple, verified list of flood shelters rather than circulate locations that may be outdated or unconfirmed.

We specifically left other Central Indiana counties off this graphic because we could not independently verify an officially activated flood-specific shelter there at the time of publication.

Marion County residents can also text INDYFLOOD26 to 67283 for official flood-response updates.

Shelter status can change quickly during an emergency. Check with local emergency officials before traveling. Never attempt to drive through floodwater.

Please share this with anyone who may need somewhere safe to go.

Our Annual chapter Friends and Family cookout is canceled due to potential threats of Inclement weather. Additional updates will be sent to chapter members as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience. The safety of our chapter members and friends are of utmost importance therefore the committee felt it was best to cancel this event at this time. Need money $$$ for school? Well, we are pleased to announce our Chapter is offering two $400.00 scholarships for our Members in honor of the rich legacies of Dr. Gayle J. Cox and the late Mr. Sam H. Jones.

Our local scholarship application will be open for the Fall term beginning June 3, 2026. Applications are due TODAY, July 20 2026 by 11:59pm and should be emailed in PDF format to [email protected]. All mailed applications need to be postmarked by TODAY to our P.O. Box 20149, Indianapolis, IN 46220-0149. Applications are available in both word and PDF formats. Applicants and award recipients will be notified on August 3, 2026.

Recipients will be recognized at our Chapter Cookout on August 15, 2026 and will be expected to attend this event.

Obituary and burial arrangements for Sister Lovada Merriweather- Our Central Indiana Association of Black Social Workers 1st Chapter President and one of our chapter’s Founding members.

Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, on Friday July 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at Crown Hill Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on July 17, 2026.

In loving memory of our 1st chapter President-Sister Lovada Merriweather. We thank her for being brave enough to lead and the important role she played in helping establish the foundation, spirit, and legacy of our organization. Her contributions will always be remembered with gratitude and appreciation.

As one of the individuals who helped shape our chapter’s beginning, Lovada leaves behind a rich and meaningful legacy of service, commitment, and fellowship. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her and were touched by her life and work.

Additional details regarding services, memorial arrangements, or additional ways to offer support will be shared as they become available.

In the meantime, we ask that you keep the family of Lovada Merriweather in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
