Titan Needs a Hero by 6/15 🚨

Meet Titan.

Titan is a smart, energetic guy who likes to keep our staff guessing and our maintenance team employed. 😅

This handsome boy walks well on a leash, loves to stay busy, and is always ready for his next adventure. Unfortunately, shelter life just isn’t his style. Being cooped up has left him bored, frustrated, and increasingly stressed. His latest project? Remodeling his kennel wall. As you’ll see from the photo, Titan apparently felt the décor needed an upgrade.

To keep him safe and prevent further damage, we’ve moved him to our puppy room where he has more separation and no walls available for his renovation ideas.

But the reality is that Titan is struggling. Shelter stress has begun to take a significant toll on him. He’s become increasingly frustrated and has started redirecting that frustration toward staff during handling. This isn’t a bad dog—it’s a dog whose needs aren’t being met in a shelter environment.

Titan is intelligent, active, and driven. He needs an experienced adopter, foster, or rescue who can provide structure, enrichment, exercise, and the opportunity to decompress outside of the shelter.

Every day he remains here, his stress continues to build.

Titan doesn’t need another construction project. He needs a chance. He needs someone willing to see the dog beneath the stress and give him the environment he needs to succeed.

❤️ Please come meet Titan, foster him, rescue him, or share this post. His deadline is 6/15, and we’re hoping his hero is out there.

🐾 Let’s help Titan trade kennel walls for hiking trails, enrichment toys, and a home of his own.

BAY NEEDS A HERO by 6/15

If you only saw Bay in her kennel, you might never realize how sweet she truly is.

Like so many shelter dogs, Bay struggles with the stress of confinement. The kennel environment makes her anxious, and getting a leash on her can require patience and creativity. Recently, staff spent several minutes working to leash her, using treats and slow movements to help her feel comfortable. At first, she responded by grabbing and tugging on the leash, clearly showing how overwhelmed she felt.

But once Bay was out of the kennel, everything changed.

She headed out for a long walk around the pond and enjoyed exploring the world around her. After her walk, she spent time in the evaluation room playing with toys and working treats out of a Kong. As she relaxed, her true personality began to emerge.

While staff sat nearby working on notes, Bay quietly curled up next to the chair and took a nap.

A nap.

For a dog who had been stressed and anxious just minutes before, it was a beautiful reminder of how different she is once she's away from the kennel environment.

Outside of her kennel, Bay is affectionate, calm, and easy to spend time with. She doesn't continue biting or tugging on the leash once she's out, and she genuinely enjoys spending time with people.

Even more encouraging, Bay showed tremendous progress when it was time to return to her kennel. Using the same calm approach, staff were able to get her back inside with minimal stress. She ran right into her kennel, briefly grabbed the leash once as the door closed, but quickly settled. After a moment to decompress and a few treats on the ground, the leash was removed easily with no issues at all.

Huge improvement.

Bay is showing us that she wants to succeed. She simply needs an environment where she can feel safe enough to let her guard down.

The shelter is stressful for her, but underneath that stress is a loving dog who enjoys walks, toys, enrichment, naps, and being close to people she trusts.

She doesn't need perfection.

She just needs a chance.

💕 MEET MAGGIE 💕

If you're looking for a dog who will keep you laughing, keep you company, and make you feel like the most important person in the world, Maggie may just be your girl.

Maggie is one of those dogs whose personality truly shines when she's spending time with people. She is affectionate, playful, social, and absolutely loves being part of the action. Whether she's carrying around a toy, engaging in a game of tug, or climbing into your lap for cuddles, Maggie is happiest when she's sharing her day with her favorite humans.

One of the things staff love most about Maggie is how connected she is with people. She doesn't just play near you—she wants to play with you. She'll happily bring toys over to start a game and regularly checks in for affection and attention. When she sees someone she knows, her entire body lights up with loose, wiggly excitement and happy tail wags.

Maggie has a goofy, fun-loving personality that makes it hard not to smile when you're around her. She's the kind of dog who can spend one minute enthusiastically playing with a toy and the next minute curled up next to you soaking up pets and cuddles.

While shelter life can be overwhelming at times, Maggie has shown that in calmer settings she is capable of settling down, focusing on her people, and enjoying all the simple things life has to offer.

What Maggie wants most isn't complicated.

A family.
A couch.
A toy box.
A person to love.

In return, she'll offer loyalty, laughs, companionship, and plenty of full-body wiggles.

Come meet Maggie and see why everyone who spends time with her falls in love. ❤️🐾

ADOPTED!!!!

GUMMY NEEDS A HERO BY 6/15

Gummy urgently needs a rescue, foster, or adopter.

It's impossible to spend time with Gummy and not see how badly the shelter environment is affecting him.

Recently, a volunteer took Gummy out for a walk on the trail. Getting him leashed took a little patience because he is very shy of the leash. As he left his kennel area, he stayed low to the ground with his tail tucked, hugging the wall as far away from the other barking dogs as possible. The shelter is simply overwhelming for him.

But the moment he got away from the building, everything changed.

As soon as the noise and chaos were behind him, Gummy turned toward his handler and his personality began to shine through. He excitedly jumped up several times, clearly happy to be out. After accepting a treat, he continued seeking attention, gently nudging his person for more affection.

When the volunteer knelt down to spend time with him, Gummy melted.

He pressed his head and shoulders against their chest, leaned in as hard as he could, and soaked up every second of affection. It was a powerful reminder that underneath all of the fear, stress, and uncertainty is a dog who desperately wants connection and comfort.

This is who Gummy really is.

Not the anxious dog pacing in a kennel.
Not the dog overwhelmed by barking and confinement.

He's a sweet, affectionate dog who wants someone to lean on—literally.

Gummy had no issues returning to the building or being unleashed afterward. He simply needed the opportunity to get away from the environment that is causing him so much distress.

The shelter is not where Gummy is going to thrive. He needs a calm, patient home where he can decompress, build confidence, and finally feel safe.

Please share, foster, adopt, or help connect him with a rescue.

❤️ Gummy doesn't need perfection. He just needs someone willing to be his safe place.

Be the hero Gummy is waiting for.

☀️🔥 HOT WEATHER SAFETY FOR PETS 🔥☀️

The summer heat isn't just uncomfortable for our pets—it can be dangerous and even deadly.

As temperatures rise, please take a few extra precautions to keep your furry family members safe:

💧 Always provide fresh, cool water
Pets should have access to clean water at all times, especially when spending time outdoors.

🌳 Shade is essential
A dog left outside must have access to adequate shade. Direct sunlight and hot temperatures can quickly lead to heat exhaustion.

🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car
Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly in just minutes.

🐾 Check the pavement
If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws. Asphalt and concrete can cause painful burns.

🚶 Exercise during cooler hours
Early mornings and evenings are much safer than the middle of the day.

🌡️ Know the signs of heatstroke
Watch for excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, confusion, or collapse. If you suspect heatstroke, seek veterinary care immediately.

🏠 Know the law in Marion County
Many people don't realize that Indianapolis/Marion County has specific ordinances regarding dogs in extreme weather. Dogs must be brought into a temperature-controlled facility when temperatures reach 90°F or higher, when a heat advisory has been issued, or during other severe weather conditions. Additionally, when temperatures are 80°F or higher, outdoor shelters must be properly shaded. A temperature-controlled facility is defined as a building maintained between 40°F and 80°F.

🐶 Remember: If you're hot, your pet is hot too.

Let's keep our pets safe, hydrated, and comfortable this summer. If you see an animal in distress due to the heat, don't ignore it. A simple phone call could save a life.

Stay cool and give your pets an extra treat from all of us! ❤️🐾

** FOSTERED!!!

THOR NEEDS A HERO BY 6/15

Thor urgently needs a rescue, foster, or adopter.

Thor is a big, intelligent dog who desperately wants to be with people, but the stress of kennel life has become overwhelming for him. He spends much of his time pacing, barking, drooling, licking the walls of his kennel, chewing at the walls, and biting at the leash during kennel exits. These behaviors have continued to escalate and are clear signs that he is struggling to cope with the shelter environment.

And yet, that's not who Thor is outside of the kennel.

When he is away from the noise, barriers, and constant stimulation of shelter life, Thor shows us a completely different dog. Staff consistently describe him as sweet, loving, eager to please, and easy to handle. He walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and genuinely enjoys spending time with his people. Once he's able to settle, he focuses on his handler and shows just how intelligent and trainable he can be.

There is something especially heartbreaking about dogs like Thor. Behind the kennel door, they appear overwhelmed, reactive, and frustrated. But when given space to breathe, they reveal a thoughtful, affectionate, loyal companion underneath.

Thor needs someone who understands that shelter stress is not his personality. He needs a home, foster, or rescue willing to give him structure, guidance, patience, and the opportunity to decompress. He needs a chance to remember what it feels like to feel safe.

For the right person, Thor has all the makings of an incredible companion—smart, devoted, eager to learn, and ready to form a deep bond with someone who believes in him.

Right now, Thor doesn't need another day in a kennel.

He needs a hero.

❤️ Foster.
❤️ Adopt.
❤️ Rescue.

Meet Larry.

Larry firmly believes every day should be a lazy Sunday. Monday? Sunday. Wednesday? Also Sunday. Important shelter business? Definitely sounds like a problem for someone else.

I walked into his room, started talking to him, telling him how handsome he was, asking about his day, and trying to get his attention. Larry’s response? Absolutely nothing.

Not a head lift. Not an ear twitch. Not even a courtesy glance.

This man was so committed to being cozy in his bed that I started to wonder if I was invisible.

While I stood there having a one-sided conversation, Larry simply snuggled deeper into his blankets and looked at me like I had interrupted the world’s most important nap.

If competitive lounging were an Olympic sport, Larry would already have the gold medal hanging above his bed.

He’s sweet, he’s adorable, and he’s clearly perfected the art of relaxation. Now all Larry needs is a home where he can continue his rigorous schedule of napping, snoozing, dozing, and occasionally opening one eye to see if snacks have appeared.

Come meet Larry today—just don’t expect him to get out of bed for the introduction. 🐾

Meet Titan.

Titan is a smart, energetic guy who likes to keep our staff guessing and our maintenance team employed. 😅

This handsome boy walks well on a leash, loves to stay busy, and is always ready for his next adventure. Unfortunately, shelter life just isn’t his style. Being cooped up has left him bored and stressed, and he recently decided to start a home renovation project of his own… as you’ll see from the photo of his kennel wall. Apparently, Titan felt the décor needed updating.

To keep him safe and prevent any further remodeling attempts, we’ve moved him to our puppy room where he’s by himself and no longer has access to walls he can redecorate.

Jokes aside, Titan is struggling in the shelter environment. He’s an active, intelligent dog who needs more enrichment, exercise, and companionship than we can provide in a kennel. The longer he stays here, the harder it becomes for him.

Titan doesn’t need a construction project—he needs a home.

Please come meet him, foster him, or share this post to help him find his people. He’s ready to trade demolition work for walks, toys, and a couch of his own. ❤️🐾
