WHAT TYPE OF POSTAL BOSS DO YOU LIKE?
Because Let's Be Honest - You Don't Have A Boss, You Have A Personality Type With A Scanner. It's called D.I.S.C. Assessment
And today we are talking about Dominant and Influential we will do S C later
The D - Dominant and the I - Influential.
One will write you up for breathing wrong. The other will be your best friend until you need something for real.
Which one is worse? You tell me.
1. THE DOMINANT BOSS - AKA "THE PITBULL"
You know him the second he walks in. Clipboard in hand, door slams, no "good morning." Just "WHY ISN'T THIS DISPATCHED?"
This is the boss who lives for numbers. DPS, FSS, 3999s, on-time scans. He doesn't manage people, he manages the clock.
THE POSITIVE TRAITS (Yes, They Exist):
**He Gets Sh*t Done.** When the Dominant boss is in charge, upper management backs off. He fights District for you without telling you. Need a vehicle repair? Approved. Need that 8-hour medical restriction honored? He will make it happen, because his numbers depend on you being there.
He Is Decisive. No 20-minute huddle about who is taking what piece of the route. He tells you. You go. Day over. He will never leave you hanging wondering what the plan is.
He Protects His Winners. If you work hard and don't complain, the Pitbull will protect you like family. He hates lazy carriers more than you do.
He Doesn't Do Fake. No pizza parties to cover up forced overtime. He will tell you straight: "We are short, you are working 12." You respect it even when you hate it.
THE NEGATIVE TRAITS (The Reason Everyone Calls the Union):
Fear Is His Management Style. Everything is a threat. "I can give you a letter for this." "You want to go home? I'll give you a 7-day." He thinks intimidation equals motivation.
Zero Emotional Intelligence. Your kid is sick? Your car broke down? He hears it as an excuse. He will argue with a carrier in front of customers and think he won.
Micromanager From Hell. He will follow you on street with his personal car. He will text you: "Why are you stationary for 4 minutes?" He lives on the Telematics report.
Burns Everyone Out. Including himself. The office has 100% turnover under him, grievances stacked to the ceiling, and everyone walks in stressed.
If your boss says "I don't care how you feel, I care what the numbers say" - you have a Dominant.
2. THE INFLUENTIAL BOSS - AKA "THE BEST FRIEND"
This is the cool boss. Laughs loud, knows everybody's name, kids' names, what you did last weekend. Brings donuts. Says "My door is always open, bro."
And it is... until you actually need that door to be open.
THE POSITIVE TRAITS (Why Everyone Loves Him at First):
He Makes Work Fun. For 10 hours of hell in rain, snow, and dogs, this boss actually makes the building light. He jokes, he motivates, he will hype you up before the street. Morale goes up when he is there.
He Has Your Back Emotionally. Bad day? He will listen. Customer yelled at you? He will go off on the customer for you. He makes you feel like a human, not an employee number.
He Is a Master Communicator. He can talk his way out of anything with upper management. He can sell a terrible pivot plan and make you almost feel good about it. Carriers who shut down for other bosses will actually run for him.
He Creates Loyalty. People will stay at a bad station just because the I-Boss is there. He remembers your birthday. He will let you slide on a bad scan if you are honest.
THE NEGATIVE TRAITS (Why Everyone Hates Him Later):
All Talk, No Action. He promised you that day off 3 weeks ago? Forgot. Promised to fix your case? Still broken. He is amazing at promising, terrible at paperwork.
Favoritism King. He has his 3 favorites and everyone else. If you are in the circle, you get the easy loop, the overtime you want, the long breaks. If you are out, you get cased into oblivion.
Avoids Real Conflict. He will never correct the lazy carrier who is dumping his third bundle every day, because he doesn't want to be disliked. So YOU have to carry it.
Two-Faced and Gossipy. He tells you what another carrier said about you. He tells that carrier what YOU said. He keeps the office divided with drama, then acts shocked when there is drama.
If your boss says "We're family here" but can't get your pay adjustment fixed in 6 months - you have an Influential.
SO WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER?
Name your best boss. We’d love to hear that ゚
