For many parents, it can feel like s*x and gender were simpler in their day. Now kids need guidance not only about s*x and consent, but also about the difference between s*xual preference and gender, and much more. It’s far more helpful for kids to be proactively armed with accurate information than to try to piece it together from peers or online sources. And it’s always okay to be honest about what you don’t know.

Resources on talking openly with kids and young adults about s*x, LGBTQ+ mental health, and developing healthy romantic relationships.

More reporting from our recent visit to Harrisburg, where our Executive Director, Jessica Clark, visited lawmakers and advocated for funding of Children's Advocacy Centers like the one at CARE. CACs are the heart of caring for children who may have been abused. CACs allow potential abuse victims to meet with various professionals and experts in a safe, child-friendly space -- so that the child only has to tell their story once.

💙The CARE Center’s advocacy for children is focused on providing crucial services and raising awareness here in our community of Indiana County.

💙But our advocacy goes further – extending all the way to Harrisburg itself!

💙This week Jessica Clark, our Executive Director, visited the state capital to advocate for House Bill 2443. HB 2443 will provide funding to Children’s Advocacy Centers across the state.
(More info: https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hb2443)

A Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) is a child-friendly facility where professionals —including law enforcement, child protective services, medical and mental health care, and prosecution—unite under one roof to investigate allegations of child abuse. The primary goal is to minimize trauma by ensuring the child only has to
tell their story once.

Jessica met with Representative Jim Struzzi and Senator Joe Pittman. She also attended a press conference where Representatives Kyle Mullins and Jim Rigby, sponsors of HB 2443, spoke out about their support. Chris Kirchner, Executive Director of Children's Advocacy Centers of Pennsylvania, was also a featured speaker.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting the continued funding of CACs in Pennsylvania!

🌈 June is Pride Month, a time to recognize the importance of dignity, safety, and belonging for LGBTQ+ children, youth, and families, and to uplift the communities working to create affirming spaces for all.

At PennCAC, we believe every child deserves access to trauma-informed care in environments rooted in respect, compassion, and acceptance. Healing happens when children feel seen, supported, and safe to be themselves.

Within Pennsylvania’s Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs), that work is ongoing every day, ensuring children and families have access to coordinated services that center healing and hope, without barriers to care.

As Pride Month begins, we reaffirm our commitment to supportive communities where every child can move forward on a safe path toward healing.
