Borough of Indiana

Borough of Indiana Welcome to the Borough of Indiana, PA Official Government page.

Indiana Borough has many assets including its status as the historical seat of county government, regional center of business and commerce, home of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the birthplace of actor Jimmy Stewart. While touring our historic downtown, you'll see a variety of buildings dating back to as early as 1824, including six properties individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places!

As the weather warms up and sun starts consistently shining, Indiana Borough sees more bicycles on the roads and sidewalks.

With the many different types of bicycles and e-bikes now in use, it’s important for riders and parents to understand the rules and regulations, including age requirements, and roadway versus sidewalk use.

Please ride safely, follow traffic laws, and stay alert while sharing the road with motorists and pedestrians.

See the PA micromobility fact sheet from PennDot for more detailed rules and laws.

We're happy to share that we've received PennDot TA-SA funding to support the Pedestrian Safety Enhancements Project! This funded project will help improve safety along Philadelphia Street by installing flashing beacons along the corridor, flashing stop signs at key approaches, and purchase a portable message trailer for real-time safety alerts.

Thank you, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), for the continued collaboration and support.

$74M is on the way to 38 counties to support 72 community infrastructure projects that improve pedestrian, student, and cyclist safety.

The projects were submitted as part of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) of the Federal Highway Administration’s Surface Block Grant Program.

Governor Shapiro’s Administration has invested $123M+ in TASA funds in projects around the state.
