Two Suspects Identified in Shooting Death of Teen near Wesley Chapel
Sheriff’s detectives have worked through the night relentlessly searching records hoping to identify the vehicle appearing on surveillance camera footage in the parking lot of the Villages of Wesley Chapel pool house. Around 5:00 pm Friday, the cameras captured footage of a dark blue 2011 Acura MDX sport utility vehicle entering the parking lot where the teen victim briefly approached its passenger side before being shot by one of the vehicle’s occupants. The vehicle quickly fled the area leaving the victim behind where he later died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as 15 year old Khalil Tyree McKoy, who lives in the nearby St. John’s Forest subdivision in Monroe. Detectives believe McKoy had a prearranged meeting with his assailants and he walked from his home to the Villages of Wesley Chapel pool house but the meeting went south after guns were brandished leaving McKoy fatally injured.
Early Saturday morning, detectives successfully tracked down the vehicle appearing on the cameras as well as the individuals believed to be responsible for the shooting death of McKoy.
Hunter Devon Moore, age 19 of the 2700 block of Merryvale in Waxhaw is in the Union County Jail facing a charge of First Degree Murder. Detectives and deputies are pursuing charges against the second offender and his identity will be released once charges have been issued.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey commended the work performed by detectives assigned to this case. He stated, “In less than 12 hours, this Detective Bureau has worked tirelessly together doing old fashioned police work to identify these two suspects. They basically started with nothing more than some camera footage of a vehicle with no clear tag number and were able to locate it, recover evidence, identify those responsible and file charges. I could not be more proud of the incredible work done by them as well as the crime scene investigators and deputies who were involved.”
