Last week, we had the pleasure of recognizing Firefighter Spencer Finkhousen for five years of dedicated service to PSFRD. He was presented with his 5-year service pin in appreciation of his commitment, professionalism, and service to our community.

Thank you, Spencer, for your hard work and dedication over the past five years. We are grateful to have you as part of the PSFRD family and look forward to many more years of service ahead!

Traffic Update: Expect minor delays for turtle crossings! 🐢🛑
​Chief Wilfong had a "slow" start to his morning when he found this guy trying to cross Walsingham Road. To ensure a safe arrival at his destination, the Chief threw on his road safety vest and provided a VIP transport service.

🔥💪🚒 A DAY IN THE BOOTS OF A FIREFIGHTER: Fire Ops 101 🚒💪🔥
What does it actually feel like to be a firefighter? Saturday, Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue Fire Commissioner Mark Bolling found out firsthand by stepping out of the boardroom and into bunker gear for Fire Ops 101.
This wasn’t just a walkthrough; it was an immersive, high-heat experience designed to show the physical and mental demands of the job. Commissioner Bolling suited up and got to work, tackling several critical fire service scenarios:
👨‍🚒Search and Rescue: Navigating low-visibility environments to locate and safely remove "victims."
🔥Fire Suppression: Manhandling a charged hose line to advance on a fire.
🚕Vehicle Extrication: Using heavy hydraulic tools to safely cut through a vehicle.
🚑EMS Scenario: Managing a high-pressure medical emergency.
We appreciate the Commissioner’s willingness to get in the mix, sweat in the Florida heat, and gain a deeper perspective on the tools, training, and teamwork it takes to keep our community safe.

🧘‍♂️​From Balance Sheets to Balancing Poses! 📉
​We know that being a firefighter isn't just physically demanding, it’s mentally demanding, too. Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, our very own Finance Director, Erin Brooks, went above and beyond her spreadsheets to lead a yoga session for B Shift!
​The crew had a great time stretching out and decompressing after a busy day. We are so lucky to have multi-talented leaders like Erin who truly care about the health and wellness of our team.

Putting in the Work! 🔥
​It’s been a busy week of "Engine Operations" for the Gulf Beaches Training Group. Our crews from across the beaches ( Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue , Madeira Beach Fire Department, Treasure Island - Adopt A Beach, St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue, Gulfport Fire and Rescue, and City of South Pasadena, FL) have been hitting the pavement to keep their skills razor-sharp.
​What goes into Engine Ops?
✅ Drivers mastering pump pressures and water limits.
✅ Firefighters perfecting rapid hose deployments.
✅ Seamless coordination between neighboring departments.
