Stormwater Outfall Mapping Activities – Public Notice

Lancaster County Stormwater has completed stormwater outfall mapping along McAlpine Creek and Clems Branch and will now move on to Sixmile Creek as part of ongoing mapping activities within the County’s MS4 area. Work will continue throughout the watershed as conditions allow.

Residents may notice Lancaster County-branded vehicles parked in neighborhoods, along roadways, and near stream corridors. Stormwater staff will be on foot inspecting drainage infrastructure and stream channels while wearing high-visibility Lancaster County safety apparel.

These routine activities include visual inspections, mapping, and documentation to support water quality protection. This work is not enforcement-related and is part of ongoing system assessments.

We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we work to protect and maintain local waterways.

New year, new energy!
January is Walk Your Dog Month, the perfect inspiration for you and your pup to get some extra steps and fresh air. Daily walks give our furry besties exactly what they need: movement, mental stimulation, and a chance to explore. Even a simple stroll can lift their mood, support training, build healthy joints, and gives them a routine that they will love. Fresh air + fresh steps = a great 2026 and beyond! Happy New Year from all of us at Lancaster County Stormwater! Please remember, if it’s on the ground, it’s in our water – please pick up after your dog. Dog waste bags are available free in our office to Lancaster County residents. 🐶🥳

Hey neighbors! We love Halloween – the candy, the decorations, the costumes – so fun! One thing we don’t love is fake spiderweb décor outdoors! It really is a hazard to wildlife including, birds, owls, chipmunks, butterflies, you name it – it can get caught in it. We’d like to ask you to please refrain from using this stuff outside. We thank you so much! Happy Halloween!

Over 1,200 volunteers came together across 50+ sites along the Catawba-Wateree River Basin for this year’s Catawba Riversweep! 🌎 Our team joined in at Edgewater to help keep our waterways clean and beautiful. Every effort makes a difference — thank you to everyone who volunteered! 💧

It’s Stormwater Awareness Week!
We're shining a light on how small, everyday actions can have a big impact on our environment.
Here’s Liz out with the Indian Land Rotary Club during their very first Adopt-a-Highway cleanup this past Saturday. She's all smiles — but not so happy about the trash piling up in storm drains along the highway medians. When these drains get clogged with litter, it can lead to flooding and pollution in our rivers and streams.
One surprising (and not-so-sweet) find? A deflated Happy Valentine’s Day mylar balloon — still intact seven months after the holiday - showing just how long this kind of litter sticks around. Balloons might look fun, but once released or tossed aside, they can become a serious hazard to wildlife and the environment.
Oh, and yes — there were muffins. Because volunteers deserve a snack break!
