For us, this month is personal.
There is no better way to recognize Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month than by standing behind a man who has spent YEARS standing behind this department.
Our own Wayne Higdon is in the fight of his life.
For years, Wayne has been one of the people who helped hold this department together. He has given his time, dedication, knowledge, and countless hours to this company and its members.
When the department needed him, Wayne was there.
Now, Wayne needs us.
🫁 Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) is a serious and progressive lung disease that causes scarring of the lungs. As that scarring worsens, the lungs become stiff, making it increasingly difficult for oxygen to pass into the bloodstream.
Imagine having to fight for something most of us do thousands of times every day without even thinking about:
Taking a breath.
There is currently no known cure for pulmonary fibrosis. More than 250,000 Americans are living with pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease.
But Wayne isn’t a statistic to us.
He’s family.
The fire service has always been about more than apparatus, calls, uniforms, or titles. It’s about the person standing beside you. It’s about showing up when someone needs you. And it’s about taking care of our own.
Wayne has answered that call for this department more times than we could ever count.
Now, we’re answering it for him.
Throughout September, we ask our members, families, friends, and community to help us spread awareness about Pulmonary Fibrosis β€” and to show Wayne just how many people are standing in his corner.
Wayne, you’ve spent years fighting for this department.
Now, this department fights for YOU.
πŸ’™πŸ’š NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE. πŸ’šπŸ’™
WE FIGHT WITH WAYNE.
WE BREATHE HOPE WITH WAYNE.
WE STAND WITH WAYNE.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations, Wayne Higdon! πŸŽ‰

The Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. would like to congratulate our very own Wayne Higdon on receiving his 50 Years of Volunteer Service award Friday night at the Charles County Volunteer Association banquet.

Wayne has served our department in many leadership roles over the years and currently serves as our Assistant Fire Chief and Safety Officer. In addition to his leadership roles, Wayne continues to be one of the top responders for both Fire and EMS, consistently answering the call for our community.

We are incredibly thankful for Wayne’s 50 years of service, dedication, and compassion to the Indian Head community. Thank you, Wayne, for all that you do!
