Love endures, and George Dwyer and Abigail Adams (now Sorenson) met during their first month as freshmen in college. They were an immediate — and passionate — love match, staying together until almost graduation when George proposed marriage and Abigail answered “no.” An emotional explosion followed, and for 25 years after, not a word passed between them. At their 50th college class reunion, they remember being thrown together at the 25th reunion and their surprising reconciliation with both their shared memories and each other. Now suddenly alone, they decide how they will face their futures. Will "almost opposites" still attract?

INDIAN HEAD, MD – The Hard Bargain Players are proud to present Audrey Cefaly's critically acclaimed play, "The Gulf," opening Friday, August 1st, at the Black Box Theatre, Indian Head Center for the Arts. GULF (noun) a body of water; an abyss; a separation; a void; a distance

"The Gulf" tells the story of Kendra and Betty, two women who find themselves at a crossroads during a seemingly ordinary fishing trip.
As Betty attempts to diagnose Kendra's life using career advice from "What Color is Your Parachute," their routine excursion takes an unexpected and violent turn, revealing the deep chasm that separates them. It’s 1978, in rural Maryland. Deirdre, a White historian working to complete her doctoral dissertation on lynchings in the state, visits the site where the last Maryland lynching occurred in 1933 and finds a story that reaches back to the 1840s and forward to 1978. It will turn out to involve her uncle, her uncle’s in-laws, Deirdre’s Black civil rights worker boyfriend, and their 14-year-old son. The story of endemic racism, once uncovered, forces momentous decisions regarding allegiances, attitudes, and reconciliation.
