Village of Indian Head Park

Village of Indian Head Park Welcome to the Village of Indian Head Park page!

Whether it's the welcoming atmosphere, natural beauty, or its sense of small-town pride, Indian Head Park embodies the best of suburban living in the heart of the Midwest. The Village was named after the Indian Head Golf Course that existed prior to the subdivision’s development and to recognize the fact that Native American arrowheads were left in the area by the Potawatomie tribe. Today, Indian

Head Park is a charming area that is committed to community, forestry, and love of nature. The village of approximately 4,000 residents is characterized by a rolling terrain with scores of mature trees in a park-like setting and deer that roam the subdivision. Over the years, officials and residents of the Village of Indian Head Park have continued to maintain a strong focus on the Native American tradition of respect for the environment and preservation of natural beauty. Residents of this safe community have access to excellent schools and convenient transportation options to downtown Chicago and both O’Hare and Midway airports. With heavy rainfall expected today, now is a good time to take a few simple steps to help reduce the risk of flooding and sewer backups. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has shared some helpful reminders on how residents can reduce water usage during and after today's storm to lessen the burden on the sewer system. Please take a moment to review the information below and stay safe.

Overflow Action Alert

Heavy rain is expected in the Chicago area today. Reduce your use of water during and after the storm to help prevent flooding and protect water quality:

• Delay showers and baths
• Flush less frequently
• Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine

Flooding and sewer backups can happen for a variety of reasons. To help prevent flooding inside or around your home, there are actions you and your family can take before and during rainfall.

We value your input! The Village is hosting a joint public hearing of the Planning and Zoning Commission and Village Board to discuss proposed updates to the Zoning Code, including potential changes to fence regulations.

These proposed amendments were developed following resident feedback from our March, April, and May Village Board meetings and would allow for fences in specific yards adjacent to busy streets.

Meeting Details:
When: Tomorrow, June 17, 7 p.m.
What: Joint public hearing to review the code updates

Your participation is a vital part of the process as we work toward final consideration and potential adoption of the updated code on July 9. Residents are encouraged to review meeting agendas and participate in the public process by visiting https://www.indianheadpark-il.gov/AgendaCenter

🦟 Mosquito Alert: With warmer, humid weather here, it's time to protect your family and neighbors from mosquitos. The Cook County Department of Public Health reports an increase in West Nile Virus-positive mosquito collections in our region, making prevention critical to public health.

The best defense? Eliminate standing water! Even small amounts can become breeding sites. Here are quick tips to help Fight the Bite around your home:
📌Clean your gutters.
📌Change birdbath water regularly.
📌Maintain your pools.
📌Screen rain barrels.
📌Remove containers, tires, or other items that collect water.

The Desplaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District was also out in the area last week conducting mosquito spraying operations to help reduce mosquito populations. While spraying is an important part of mosquito control, residents can make the biggest impact by removing standing water around their homes.
