🇺🇸Today, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes, our nation's symbol of freedom and unity. 🇺🇸

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress adopted the first official American flag. While the design has evolved over the years as new states joined the Union, the flag's meaning remains unchanged: representing the ideals, sacrifices, and shared values that unite us as Americans.

As we proudly display the red, white, and blue, the City of Indian Harbour Beach encourages residents to take a moment to reflect on the history of our flag and the generations who have served under it.

🚔🚒 Yesterday, the transition of Police and Fire dispatch services to the Unified Communications Center (UCC) out of Rockledge, operated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, was completed.

What residents need to know:

✅ The Police Department lobby will be open for walk-in visitors Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

✅ After-hours walk-in assistance remains available. If you need assistance outside normal business hours, simply use the call button located outside the Police Department entrance. You will be connected to the UCC, which will dispatch an officer to meet you and provide access to the building.

📞 For emergencies, always call 911.

📞 For non-emergency Police or Fire assistance, continue to call 321-773-3030 and press 0 to be connected directly to the UCC.

This change only affects how emergency and non-emergency calls are dispatched. It will not impact the services provided by the Police Department or Fire Department. Our commitment to serving and protecting our residents remains unchanged, and the City of Indian Harbour Beach Police Department and Indian Harbour Beach Volunteer Fire Dept will continue providing the high level of service our community expects and deserves.

🚧 You've seen the construction at City Hall—but have you ever wondered what a Baffle Box is and why it's important?

As part of our stormwater improvement project, we're installing a baffle box, an underground structure designed to improve water quality before stormwater enters our waterways.

🌧️ When it rains, stormwater flows off roads, parking lots, and other surfaces, carrying litter, leaves, sediment, oil, and other pollutants. A baffle box acts like a large filter. As water passes through a series of internal chambers (called baffles), heavier debris and sediment settle to the bottom while trash and floatable materials are trapped inside.

✅ Helps keep pollutants out of our lagoon and waterways
✅ Improves water quality
✅ Protects wildlife and aquatic habitats
✅ Supports a healthier environment for our community

While most people will never see a baffle box once it's installed underground, it's an important piece of infrastructure working behind the scenes to protect our natural resources every time it rains.

Stay tuned for more updates on the City Hall construction project!
