Turns out the Fire Chief has a soft spot for shelter pets.

Chief Walker stopped by the Independence Animal Services Shelter this week and left with a pretty big smile.

Why? Because every Friday through the summer, adoption fees are waived for all pets 6 months and older.

🚒 Four months ago, this was a construction site. Today, it's starting to look like Fire Station 8.
The new station will replace the current Station 8, which has served the community since 1964. It will include modern living spaces, three apparatus bays, and a dedicated training building to better support firefighters and the growing north side of Independence.
This is one of three new fire stations approved by voters through the 2021 Public Safety Sales Tax.

Sparklers burn at nearly 2,000 degrees, hot enough to melt some metals. In this video, Chief Walker demonstrates why fireworks deserve your full attention.

If you're using fireworks this Fourth of July, keep water nearby, never relight a firework that doesn't go off, keep children and pets at a safe distance, and never mix fireworks with alcohol or drugs.

Celebrate the holiday with great memories, not a trip to the emergency room. Better yet, leave the fireworks to the professionals.
