Fire Hydrant Repair:
The City of Independence Water Department will be replacing a broken fire hydrant on Monday, June 27th. The replacement will result in a water shutdown on 6th Ave NW between 1st and 3rd St. NW, on 4th Ave NW between 1st and 3rd St. NW, on 2nd St. NW between 4th and 6th Ave NW, and on 3rd St. NW between 4th and 6th Ave NW. The work is expected to begin around 8:00 AM and be finished up later that morning. Please note that in unexpected situations, other areas near this location could be affected.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
The City of Independence will be repainting the water tower in 1st Ward Park (Courthouse) this summer. There is a proposal to change from the current Gray with Red Cap to White with Red Cap and Blue lettering (logo?). We would appreciate the community's input on this change.

Water Shutdown Highway 150 Construction Project

Water Main Repair:
The City of Independence Water Department will be working on a broken water main today – Tuesday, May 10, 2022. The repair will result in a water shutdown everywhere between 4th Ave and 6th Ave NW north of 3rd St. NW. It with also shut down everywhere between 5th Ave and 9th Ave NW north of 5th St. NW. The work is expected to begin later this morning and will end sometime during the day. Please note that in unexpected situations, other areas near this location could be affected.

-WEATHER PERMITTING - On Thursday, May 5th the City of Independence Water Department will be conducting a water shutdown on the SE side of town as a part of the Highway 150 construction process. The shutdown will happen around 8:00 AM and is expected to last until early afternoon. The affected areas will be on 7th St. SE between 3rd and 4th Ave SE. Should weather not permit, this shutdown will be rescheduled for some time the following week. Please note that in unexpected situations, other areas near this location could be affected.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share with the community of Independence, the sudden passing of our Mayor Robert (Bob) Hill. Bob served on the city council for over a decade before being elected Mayor and transitioning into that roll on January 1, 2022. Bob served on many boards and committees in our community and county over the years, in addition to being active with local civic organizations. Bob’s love of family as well as enthusiasm for, and commitment to the City of Independence will always be remembered.
We’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to Bob’s wife, Audrey, their daughters, Beth, Erin, Laura, and their families.
