City offices (including the shelter) will be closed today in honor of Labor Day. If there is an animal emergency, please call 911 and ask to be connected with an animal services officer.
The shelter will re-open for normal business hours on Tuesday at 10 am.

🐾 READY TO GET STARTED VOLUNTEERING? 🐾
Whether you recently reached out about volunteering or you’ve been waiting for an orientation date, we’re ready for you! ❤️
We have two September volunteer orientations coming up:

📅 Wednesday, September 9 at 5:00 PM
📅 Saturday, September 12 at 9:00 AM

📍 Independence Animal Shelter, 21001 E. M-78 Hwy.

If you’ve been waiting for your chance to get started, this is it! Come to whichever orientation works best for you. We’re excited to meet you, show you around, and get you started helping the animals.
Once you’ve completed orientation, you can volunteer in ways that work for your schedule. Some volunteers have regular shifts, while others come whenever they have some free time. Every bit of help makes a difference!
🐶 Walk dogs
🐱 Spend time with cats
🧺 Help around the shelter
❤️ Give the animals some extra attention
✨ Jump in wherever you’re needed

✨FOSTER FOUND✨

💗 MEDICAL FOSTER NEEDED FOR MILEY 💗

Miley is only 7 months old, and she has already been through far more than any puppy should. Last week, Miley was hit by a car and suffered a broken back left leg, along with a sore front left leg and road rash.

Miley is a sweet girl, but she's very nervous and shut down right now. What she needs most is a quiet, calm place where she can recover and decompress. A medical foster would give Miley the opportunity to heal physically and emotionally in a home environment, surrounded by patience, comfort, and plenty of love.

She doesn't need someone to fix everything overnight. She just needs someone willing to give her time, a safe space, and a chance. 🐾💗

❤️‍🩹Pedro has been waiting for 228 days❤️‍🩹

At just 2 years old, Pedro has spent a huge part of his young life in the shelter, but that environment has become incredibly difficult for him.

But outside of his kennel, Pedro is an energetic, playful boy who absolutely loves having dog friends! If you have another dog looking for a sibling, Pedro is your guy. His playful energy is infectious. He’s always down for a good time!

Help us get Pedro home. His family is out there! And even better? His adoption fees are WAIVED TODAY for Free Friend Friday along with every other animal 6mo+! 🐾🏡
