FYI: Marion County has received federal funds to rehabilitate the Independence Bridge. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2027 and upon completion, the weight restrictions on the structure will be removed.

The bridge will remain open during construction, but lane closures may occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM with flaggers directing traffic through the work area. Both lanes of traffic will be open before 9 AM and after 4 PM to accommodate the morning and evening commute.

When it rains, what’s left behind doesn’t just disappear.

Pet waste on sidewalks, lawns, and trails can wash into storm drains and flow straight into our rivers and creeks without treatment. That impacts water quality, wildlife, and our community.

Here are a few easy habits that make a big difference:

• Bring bags every time you head out.
• Don’t leave waste near storm drains.
• Dispose of it properly in the trash.
• Avoid composting or burying pet waste near gardens.

Our osprey camera is up and running again! While we haven’t spotted any ospreys just yet, now’s the perfect time to start checking in. Thanks to generous donors, we’ve added audio this year so you can hear the ospreys’ calls as soon as they return.
