βοΈ Every winter, Independence shows up for its seniors.
This past winter, the city invested over $234,000 in its senior snowplowing program β because that's who we are. That's what we value.
But here's something worth sitting with: living in Independence is a privilege most people don't fully realize they have.
Here's just a fraction of what that looks like:
Your family rec center pass? $65 a year. Comparable communities in Ohio charge three to five times that. Summer pool passes for an entire family for an entire season? $50. Citywide sidewalk plowing β automatic, free. Weekly bulk garbage pickup plus yard waste, leaf pickup and chipper service. Free security checks, vacation watches and home safety evaluations through your Police and Fire departments. Free notary services, garage sale permits, and a monthly city magazine delivered to your door.
And so much more.
These aren't guarantees. They're gifts β funded by a community that consistently chooses to invest in itself.
This levy is that same choice.
For retired residents with no earned income, the tax impact is approximately $26.25 per year on a $100,000 home. A community that already does this much, for this many people, can absolutely do this too.
Independence has never asked who deserves its generosity. It just shows up. π
