PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
September 2, 2026

Montgomery County is seeking citizen input related to the development of the 2027 Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations Updates.

The first step of developing the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations Update is to complete a statistically valid citizen survey. The survey will be developed, distributed, and analyzed by a professional market research firm named the ETC Institute with an office in Olathe, Kansas in conjunction with the Planning Consultant Team of Dick Horton Consulting and TESSERE.

To develop the survey, Montgomery County citizen input is required to provide their thoughts to the Planning Consultant about the countywide key issues that must be used to create 25 to 30 questions that will be included in the survey.

The process to identify key issues will be to identify a person from numerous groups in the County who will sit for an interview with the Planning Consultant. For example, Elected and Appointed Officials, City or County Staff, Business and Civic Leaders, Faith Community Representatives, Education Administrators, Farmers, Arts Community Members, Youth and Senior Adults, Community Service Agencies, Contributors to Quality of Life, etc.

If you are a member of one of the groups listed above or simply want to be included, please express your interest to Montgomery County no later than Friday, September 11th at 4:00 PM.

🏆 Three Years of Perfect Scores for the Montgomery County Appraiser’s Office!

For the third consecutive year, County Appraiser Melody Kikkert and her staff have earned a perfect score on the Property Valuation Division’s Annual Compliance Review.

Each year, the Kansas Property Valuation Division conducts a comprehensive review of the ad valorem property tax appraisal process in every county. The review evaluates the accuracy and uniformity of property appraisals and ensures county appraisal offices are following Kansas laws, regulations, mass appraisal procedures, and required accuracy standards.

For the 2026 statistical and procedural compliance review, counties must earn a score of 75 points or greater to be considered in substantial compliance.

Montgomery County didn’t just meet that standard — our Appraiser’s Office earned a perfect score for the third year in a row!

This accomplishment reflects the knowledge, consistency, and attention to detail that Melody and her staff bring to their work each day. Maintaining this level of compliance year after year is an achievement worth celebrating.

👏 Please join us in congratulating Melody and the entire Montgomery County Appraiser’s Office on another outstanding review!
