Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps is a grant based, community service project

It comes with great sadness that I make this post…

After 30 plus years of dedicated service, the Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps program has come to an end.

The LLA program has been a light for so many members throughout the years. Teachers were born, the environment stayed well protected, and the communities surrounding our region were enlightened by the services that we helped grow, maintain, and develop.

It is unfortunate that these cuts have been made and I want to wish all of the members, past and present, my sincerest thank you’s for what you have done and will continue to do. And the same goes goes to all of the service sites that helped this program along the way.

It has been an honor to serve as the director and I am sure the past directors would agree in stating that as well.

All the best,

Dean

On April 14, all AmeriCorps NCCC members were unexpectedly removed from service and sent home with no warning. As a result, many of them are now in need of financial assistance to address housing, food, transportation, and/or health emergencies.

Building on the success of 15 state-based emergency funds that support AmeriCorps members with emergencies during their terms of service, America's Service Commissions (ASC) is launching a national emergency assistance fund for AmeriCorps members.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your support.

Sean and I had a great time down in Atlanta, GA this week. From learning and hearing about new inventive ways to manage and recruit for LLA program. It was also nice to explore and see what downtown Atlanta has to offer.

LLA will be celebrating its members this week! To make a difference is to be the difference!

America’s greatness comes from the extraordinary acts of ordinary citizens. From a pioneering group of 20,000 Americans who first raised their hands to serve, AmeriCorps has grown into a nationwide force for positive change. Today, millions of AmeriCorps participants have contributed billions of hours of results-driven service across all 50 states and U.S. territories, creating lasting impact in communities nationwide.

Proud of the work the members put forth in collecting items for MLK day! 💪🏼

The Rend Lake College Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps (LLA) program held a food drive in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the National Day of Service. More than 30 LLA members collected over 5,000 non-perishable items along with health items from over 20 service sites for the RLC student food pantry. 🍎🎉

The pantry is funded through donations and through a recent $3,000 grant awarded by Swipe out Hunger. With support from both inside and outside sources, the food pantry helps to address food insecurity and ensures all students have access to resources they need to thrive academically.

"We are very appreciative for the generous donations made by the AmeriCorps team," said Vickie Schulte, Dean of Student Success and Development. "The support has made an incredible impact, providing much needed resources to our students. Their efforts have truly shown the power of compassion and kindness, and we are ever so thankful for AmeriCorps commitment to helping us to fight hunger on campus." 🌟
