On Monday, 7/27 at 5:30 PM the Ilion Village Board will meet at the Municipal Building, 49 Morgan St., Ilion NY. You will find the agenda at www.ilionny.gov/government/

On Tuesday morning July 28th the Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency will hold a regular meeting of the Board of Directors at 8:00 AM. The meeting will be held electronically via zoom conference as well as a public meeting open for the public to attend in person.

Members of the public may join the board meeting virtually by going to www.zoom.com or by dialing (929) 205-6099 and entering meeting ID: 875 6466 4800 and passcode: 402411.

Members of the public may join the meeting in person in the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce Conference Room at 420 E. German Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. The conference room may be accessed by pressing the contacts key on the keypad at any entrance and selecting the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce.

Office Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.  Please call ahead for an appointment. The Village Court does not accept adjournments over the phone. You must request an adjournment in person.

Reminder : Ilion Doo Dah parade starts at 6:30 pm Friday and Herkimer County Democrats will be marching - air quality permitting. *.
Line up on Frederick St 5:30 - until start. You may be redirected to Richfield Street if you arrive later. Take Richfield , then a left on Columbia Parkway. You can park there and walk back to Frederick.
Would like a good showing to help decorate truck and hand out stickers for kids along the route, and support Colleen Maxwell with some signs. Wear blue or patriotic colors.

DOO DAH PARADE in ILION – Friday, July 17th

The Doo Dah Parade is on Friday the 17th, and we'll be walking as the Herkimer County Democrats! WE ARE THE COUNTY COMMITTEE, and proud of that, and all Democrats who can join us are welcomed. Thanks. WEAR PATRIOTIC COLORS or BLUE.

Line-up: 5:15–5:45 PM Parade starts at 6 PM
Location: Central Valley Academy driveway area on Frederick Street, Ilion

There is parking available at the CVA lot on Frederick , if you get there early, as well as at the High School above. Depending on traffic, you may be redirected around the block via Richfield Street to access the line-up area. Parking is available along Columbia Parkway.

We'll be joined by Colleen Maxwell, running for the 118th NYS Assembly Seat and any Democratic candidate is welcome to walk with us. Please help spread the word. This is one of the best-attended parades in the area, and it's a great opportunity to connect with the community.

What we still need:

Confirmation of a truck and driver (We have the truck decorations and will be at the line-up.)

Ideally, 10 or more volunteers to help with:

Walking with Colleen and carrying signs.

Carrying our banner. It will be there.

Handing out our Earth Day-style stickers instead of candy. We'll need at least one person on each side of the parade unit (two per side would be even better) to hand the stickers directly to children. They cannot be thrown.

Two or more additional volunteers to hand small trash bags to parents. Our theme is to keep our hometown safe and clean.

Colleen has chosen a theme centered on community pride and keeping Ilion and the Valley clean. While it ties into the ongoing discussion about the data center, and her hard work on that, that will not be our focus. Our message is about building civic pride, community involvement, and investing in our hometown.

Blake Genedebien has been invited but has not yet confirmed.

Please feel free to invite friends and family to join us and help with any of the volunteer roles listed above. Teens would be especially welcomed!! Kids in wagons and strollers, too!!

If anyone has a rousing play list of parade music that they can put on a thumb drive, bring it.

Someone asked a good question about caucuses and our role and here's the answer: The way the party is set up, technically speaking, ( we know this is boring - it's State Election law ) is that the County Committee is the 'grassroots' local branch of the State Party. Then there can be Town or City committees that have autonomy but are essentially subcommittees of the County committee and work cooperatively. In most counties there are SOME of these and they can make a big difference in being organized to elect Democrats in that town or city. They also give voice to town or city specific issues. We in Herkimer County have none of those.😐
And then there are village caucus committees, which operate only right before a village election and essentially prevent the need for a primary and work around the need for candidates to go out and petition for the Party Line spot on the village ballot. Towns can also have a caucus system if there is a town caucus committee. Cities generally do not use a caucus system-the primary system is standard.
In villages without a caucus, a Dem could still petition to be on the ballot and there could be a primary but it's more work for everyone - the candidate(s), village election staff etc.. (They can also petition to be on an independent line - that is not part of any caucus)
The only time the County Committee gets involved in caucus operation is if there is a new caucus Committee forming or re-forming that needs a chair. We would appoint the chair. The Herkimer Village Caucus Committee has been up and running for some time and Dr. Ainsworth has been the chair for as long as our own executive Committee can recall.
