Idanha-Detroit RFPD is a volunteer fire district within the cities of Idanha and Detroit in Oregon.

We provide fire protection, emergency medical services, vehicle rescue, and public education.

Following the recent rain and cooler weather, and the fire danger level being lowered to Moderate by the Oregon Department of Forestry - North Cascade District, Idanha-Detroit Fire District is lifting the fire ban. Fires are allowed in permitted recreational fire pits.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shortly before 7:00pm yesterday evening, August 18th, Idanha-Detroit Fire District was dispatched to a fall at the Church St bridge in Idanha. Upon arrival, our crew found an injured man at the water's edge who had fallen approximately 30 feet onto the rocks below.

Due to the steep terrain and the man's injuries, a rope rescue team from Salem Fire Department was requested to assist with rescue operations. The man was safely rescued, transferred to Lyons Ambulance, and then taken to a nearby landing zone from where he was flown by Life Flight to Salem Hospital.

Idanha-Detroit Fire District would like to thank Salem Fire Department , Lyons Rural Fire District, Metcom 911, Marion County Sheriff's Office , and Linn County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with the rescue and their dedication to the safety and wellbeing of our citizens.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At 3:45 this morning, August 14th, Idanha-Detroit Fire District was dispatched to an RV fire at Detroit Lake State Park. Our crew arrived to find a large RV fully involved, with fire also spreading to nearby brush and trees.

Due to the proximity of other campers in the park, limited personnel on the initial attack crew, and the absence of a static water supply, additional resources were requested from neighboring agencies.

The fire was contained to the immediate area and no injuries were reported. The single occupant of the RV was awoken by smoke alarms and was able to safety exit the RV. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but it is believed to have started in the kitchen.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that smoke alarms save lives! Ensure that yours are working properly by testing them once a month, and replacing the batteries every 6 months.

Idanha-Detroit Fire District was assisted by Gates Rural fire Protection District, Lyons Rural Fire District , Stayton Fire District , and Marion County Sheriff's Office.

FIRE BAN IN EFFECT
August 12th

Effective immediately, all fires (including recreational fires with permits) are banned within Idanha-Detroit Fire District. This ban will remain in effect until further notice and follows Oregon Department of Forestry - North Cascade District's decision to move to Extreme fire danger.

This past Tuesday, our crew had the pleasure of hosting our first field trip to our new fire station! The kids got to tour the facility, see the fire engines, spray some water, and even got to put on turnout gear and put their hands on some tools. Then they practiced how to safely escape a house fire, how and when to call 911, and practiced stop, drop, and roll!

Our landing pad at our new fire station is getting a lot of use today. Search and Rescue (SAR) teams from multiple agencies, as well as an Army blackhawk helicopter, are currently utilizing it for SAR operations in search of a missing hiker in the Mt Jefferson wilderness. Please stay clear of our front parking lot, and be patient as our crews shut down Blowout Rd periodically throughout the day in order to keep the landing zone secure.

Did you enjoy the fireworks over Detroit Lake on Saturday?

Our firefighters got to have a front-row seat to the show while fighting an approximate 50' x 50' fire that started near Detroit Flats during the display.

Special thanks to Owen Construction for providing a water tender on site to aid firefighting efforts!
