The 890 square-mile Idaho National Laboratory Site (INL), located in southeastern Idaho, was first established in 1952 as the National Reactor Testing Station. The original mission of the INL site was to develop and test civilian and defense nuclear reactor technologies and manage spent nuclear fuel. Fifty-two reactors — most of them first of a kind — were built at the site, including the Navy’s f

irst prototype nuclear propulsion plant. Today, the site's mission is focused on environmental cleanup. The Idaho Environmental Coalition, LLC, is the cleanup contractor performing work for the U.S.

We were honored to join The Idaho Foodbank's "Mission in Motion" tour of regional partners such as the Community Food Basket - Idaho Falls, Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, The Giving Cupboard and more. This was an opportunity to see how several organizations across Eastern Idaho work together for good. We're proud to support this mission and help feed our neighbors in need.

At the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center fabrication shop, skilled workers assemble various items for nuclear cleanup. The tool shown here will be crucial to handling used nuclear fuel (UNF) canisters. This tool will support the Idaho Environmental Coalition’s efforts to prepare UNF to be shipped out of Idaho at a future date.

Idaho Cleanup Project contractor Idaho Environmental Coalition is clearing out and filling in the basin of the Submarine 5th Generation General Electric (S5G) prototype. These actions will allow the Office of Naval Reactors to repurpose the facility for future use and maximize the value of taxpayer dollars.

The Idaho Environmental Coalition received an excessed Hi-Trac cask from the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Ohio, a cost-savings effort that will support the future used nuclear fuel road ready demonstration project.

"A third-year electrical engineering student at Idaho State University returned to the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) for a second consecutive summer internship, where he applied coding and taught himself 3D modeling software to design a prototype for a critical effort to retrieve 4,400 cubic meters of legacy waste and prepare it for disposal."
