HEAT STROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY 🚨

With temperatures rising, knowing these signs can save a life. Save this reel and share it with someone you love.

🛑 The Signs (What to look for):
▪️ Body temp above 103°F
▪️ Red, hot, dry skin (no sweating)
▪️ Rapid, strong pulse
▪️ Dizziness, confusion, or passing out

⚡ The Actions (What to do):
▪️Call 9-1-1 immediately.
▪️Move them to a cool, shaded area.
▪️Remove outer clothing.
▪️Cool them down: Place ice packs or cold, wet cloths on their head, neck, armpits, and groin.
▪️Elevate their feet.

For non-emergencies, call your doctor and shelter in place.

⚠ Overdose Spike Notification:

The Eastern Idaho Public Health and Safety Team (PHAST) has identified a spike in reported drug overdoses in Eastern Idaho within the last 48 hours.

Here is what you can do:

Lock up medications (over the counter and prescription) ➡ Visit an Eastern Idaho Public Health office for a FREE medication lock pouch and a FREE drug deactivation system to get rid of unused/expired medications in a safe way.

If you suspect an overdose, call 911 right away - even if you administer naloxone ➡ Schedule a FREE naloxone training with EIPH to learn more about naloxone

Be aware that no illicit drugs are safe ➡ Do not take a prescription medication that is not prescribed to you.

Carry naloxone (Narcan) ➡ Visit the Center for Hope in Idaho Falls or Rexburg to pick up a FREE box of Narcan.

Check in with friends and family members ➡ If you are concerned about a family member or friend, reach out to them. You can also refer family members and friends to recovery and support services such as the 9-8-8 su***de & crisis hotline or HELP4U which is a free, confidential substance use treatment referral service. Text your 5-digit zip code to 435748 (HELP4U) to access services.

* The Eastern Idaho Public Health and Safety Team (PHAST) is comprised of local first responders agencies including Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, the Bonneville County Coroner’s Office, Idaho Falls Police Department, Idaho Falls Fire Department, Idaho State Police, and Eastern Idaho Public Health. The Eastern Idaho PHAST team meets regularly to discuss drug overdose trends in an effort to reduce overdose deaths in the community.
