05/05/2026, A caller notified dispatch of a motorist assist call in the Clear Creek area, Boise County deputies contacted Lawrence Vanty after locating a disabled vehicle and trailer blocking the roadway.

During the contact, deputies discovered Vanty had an active felony stalking warrant with a $100,000 bond. Deputies also located suspected drug paraphernalia on his person, which led to an inventory of the vehicle and trailer before towing.

During the inventory, deputies reportedly located additional suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and several fi****ms.

Vanty was taken into custody and booked into the Ada County Jail on the outstanding warrant and additional drug charges related to the investigation.

Mountain Wisdom : Boise County is not a great hiding place for criminals on the run. Most out-of-towners stick out pretty quickly around here, especially when they make it obvious by not staying on the road as in this case.

05/04/2026 @ 1130 Hours: Pup Rescue Report!

Late this morning, BCSO deputies were called out for a 70-pound Samoyed named Nash who had taken a wrong step and tumbled down a steep embankment.

Deputies made it to the edge, took one look down, and wisely decided this wasn’t a “hold my coffee and climb” situation. So they called in the pros.

Enter Garden Valley Fire… rolling in with a whole lot of calm confidence.

A plan came together:
-Two firefighters and one deputy anchored up top with impressive rope work.
-Fireman Austin Fields went down to Nash on a very steep drop.

A careful hookup, a steady pull… and a whole lot of teamwork
Slowly but surely, they brought Nash back up where he belonged… dirt on his fur, pride slightly bruised, but otherwise just fine.

At the top, Nash spotted his owner, it was a Samoyed reunion at full fluff capacity.

Big thanks to Garden Valley Fire for treating every life like it matters… even the four-legged, tail-wagging kind.

Another good day in Boise County.

PRESS RELEASE
Boise County Sheriff’s Office
April 28, 2026

On Tuesday afternoon, April 28, 2026, the Idaho City High School front office received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming they were en route to the school to cause harm.

As a precaution, Idaho City Schools were immediately placed on lockdown. Law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel responded and began assessing the situation.

Shortly after the school was put on lockdown, the Idaho State Police advised that the call was linked to a hacker group responsible for making similar threats to multiple schools and businesses across Idaho at approximately the same time.

After a thorough assessment, the threat was determined to be a hoax. The lockdown was lifted, and additional law enforcement personnel remained on campus until the end of the school day to ensure the continued safety of students and staff.

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats seriously and appreciates the cooperation of school staff, students, parents, and partner agencies during this incident.

Even though spring is here, there’s still plenty of snow hanging on in the high country—and yes, snowmobiles are still out enjoying it. But it won’t be long before that melts off and we start seeing ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides taking over the trails.

Translation: we’ll be swapping out snow tracks for dust clouds soon enough.

As you start planning those trips into the backcountry, remember: conditions can change fast in Idaho. What feels like spring in town can still be winter just a few miles up the mountain. We’d much rather see your ride photos than come looking for you after dark.

A few quick safety reminders before you head out:

* Bring layers—temperatures can drop quickly, especially at elevation
* Pack extra food and water in case you get delayed
* Be prepared for sudden weather changes (rain, snow, wind)
* Let someone know where you’re going and when you plan to return
* Carry basic emergency and survival gear (because “we thought we’d be quick” usually isn’t)

Before you ride, take a few minutes to know the rules. Here are a few key takeaways from Idaho’s OHV regulations:

* All off-highway vehicles must display a valid OHV registration sticker when operating on public lands or trails
* A valid driver’s license is required when operating on public roads
* Riders under 18 are required to wear a DOT-approved helmet
* Riders under 16 must complete an OHV safety course and/or be supervised, depending on the situation

Insurance requirements:

* Insurance is required when an OHV is operated on a public roadway (same as other motor vehicles under Idaho law)
* Insurance is not required for off-road trail use only
* If you’re connecting trails via roads—even briefly—you need to be insured and properly registered for roadway use

Recreating on Idaho’s public lands is a privilege—ride smart, ride prepared, and help keep it that way.

And as always… if your plan involves “send it and figure it out later,” just know we’ll probably meet eventually—let’s aim for a wave on the trail instead.
