End of an Era: East Boise County Ambulance District Closes, Transition to New EMS District Marks a New Chapter

After years of serving the residents of Boise County with dedication and compassion, the East Boise County Ambulance District (EBCAD) has officially closed its doors and will be opening as East Boise County EMS District (EBCED). This marks the end of an important chapter in the county’s emergency medical services, one built on the hard work, perseverance, and selflessness of countless volunteers, employees, and supporters who carried the mission forward through both triumphs and challenges.

Since its founding, EBCAD has embodied the spirit of community service. From the earliest days of operation, volunteers, many of whom balanced careers, families, and other responsibilities, gave their time to ensure ambulances were staffed, equipment was maintained, and emergency calls were answered. Through snowstorms, late nights, holidays, and long shifts, the people behind EBCAD were there when the community needed them most.
The District would like to express its deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to its mission. Volunteers, EMTs, drivers, and staff all played a vital role in building an ambulance service that not only provided emergency medical care but also comfort, reassurance, and a sense of safety to families across the county. The dedication of these individuals ensured that, even in difficult times of staffing shortages and burnout, someone was always ready to respond when the tones dropped.

Special recognition is owed to Mary Prisco at the Clerk’s Office, whose tireless work behind the scenes made so much of EBCAD’s transfer to the new district successful. From administrative support to essential background work, Mary’s contributions often went unseen by the public but were absolutely vital to making the transition a smooth one.

Gratitude is also extended to the Boise County Commissioners, who throughout the years have provided support, guidance, and advocacy for the District. Their leadership helped sustain EBCAD during challenging transitions and reinforced the importance of maintaining reliable emergency services for residents.

And to the community of East Boise County: thank you! Without the steady encouragement, trust, and support from residents, EBCAD could not have endured for as long as it did. Whether through volunteering, spreading awareness, voting YES on the new district, or simply believing in the mission, the community was the backbone of the District’s success.

Though this chapter has come to an end, the work of emergency medical services in East Boise County is far from over. The transition is now underway to the newly established East Boise County EMS District (EBCED). Building on the foundation laid by EBCAD, the new district aims to strengthen emergency medical services by introducing new opportunities, resources, and structures that will ensure the continuation of high-quality care.

This transition is both a moment to reflect and a moment to look forward, EBCAD represents years of dedication and service. As we move into EBCED, we do so with the same heart, the same mission, and a renewed hope for what lies ahead.

With optimism for the future, the East Boise County EMS District looks forward to continuing the proud legacy of emergency care, ensuring that residents across Boise County can count on timely, compassionate, and skilled response when it is needed most.

“In the darkest of moments, EMS lights the way with compassion and courage.”

With a grateful heart and much thanks to everyone in our community and all of those that served East Boise County Ambulance District
THANK YOU!

🌟 Three ambulances in service at once!!!
Huge shoutout to our amazing teams last night and early morning! 🌟

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up to help out! Thanks to your dedication, we were able to respond to three calls in our district and be there for those in need.

A special thank you to Unit 12 in Lowman — you had the longest night, and your commitment allowed Unit 14 to stay in service for another important call. Unit 13, thank you for jumping into action and keeping things moving while the other units were transporting patients. Your teamwork made all the difference!

It was a busy night (and morning!), but we’re beyond thankful we had the people and support to answer every call.

We’re also so lucky to have the incredible Wilderness Ranch QRU assisting with two of those calls, along with our amazing first responder that jumped our of bet to help. You all truly make a difference — thank you for showing up when it matters most! 💛🚑💪

🌟 Shoutout to the amazing Life Flight Network crew! 🚁

A huge thank you to the crew that assisted on our call last Saturday. Your professionalism, teamwork, and kindness didn’t go unnoticed.

We especially appreciate the way you supported our student EMT, it meant the world to her and to all of us.

Thanks to your encouragement and steady presence, she was able to get her first IV on a patient (we all knew she’d do great! 💪).

You made her feel welcome and confident, and that kind of mentorship goes a long way in shaping the next generation of EMS providers.

We’re grateful to work alongside such dedicated partners. Keep doing what you do, your impact is bigger than you know! 🙌💙
