Welcome to Hyde Park, Vermont

Incorporated in 1895, the Village of Hyde Park is a historic New England Chartered Village providing local governance and municipal utilities. We're strategically located within the Green Mountains, along the shores of the Lamoille River, adjacent the Rail Trail, near the pristine Green Mountain Reservoir, in the shadow of majestic Mount Mansfield, midway between Sto

Hyde Park hospitality encompasses craft beer, year-round recreation, as well as historic B&Bs, scenic country cabins and home rentals. Recently, there have been media stories on NPR/VPR, as well as some social media/cyber activities, that have talked about or highlighted exploitive and pricing behaviors being conducted by "for-profit" utilities. Your local utility, the Village of Hyde Park's Electric, Water, and Wastewater Divisions, operate as "not-for-profit" and non-profit organizations. The utilities are overseen by a local governance Board, which is the Village Board of Trustees, and its members are elected by the Village residents annually. They work to ensure that the utilities serve the local community and provide services that are cost-based and meet the regulatory system requirements in Vermont. The recent stories have talked about other utilities outside of the State and don't have the same local controls and governance. If you have heard such stories, please let us your thoughts on the subject, as we believe that informing the public of our structure and operations are essential to ensuring confidence in our activities. If you have any comments on this matter, please forward them to [email protected]. Thank you.

On Monday, August 4, 2025, the Village of Hyde Park utility divisions (electric, water, and wastewater) will be moving to a new enterprise software platform that will provide for enhanced engagement on invoicing, payments, customer information, and messaging. Along with this start up, we will be providing a new customer portal system (SmartHub) and this will be a primary tool for the customer engagements. This portal will be addition to your desire to stop by the office, if you prefer. Customers will need to set up their SmartHub log-ins starting on August 4. The Village has updated its website, www.villageofhydepark.com, to provide you information and guidance on SmartHub, as well as the software transition. While some parameters of the historical payments will transition and not all of your previously entered information will carry over to the new software as we are moving from one company's software to an entirely new service provider.

Please watch for more update and information relating to this move here, on Facebook, and our website. Thank you.

June 4, 2025 - tree trimming on Main Street. The Village of Hyde Park and the town highway department are coordinating some minor tree trimming on the trees along Main Street. Street signage and traffic visibility are hampered by some of the lower branches of the trees. The highway department will be trimming away some of the lower branches to increase visibility to speed and control signage. Thank you.

Urgent notice- for North Hyde Park and around 100 & 100C area, the Village of Hyde Park Electric Department will be taking an emergency power outage on Saturday April 26 from 7 am to noon (possibly shorter) to repair a utility pole broken by a vehicle in the overnight hours. Apologize for the inconvenience but given the location of the broken pole, we need the outage to maintain service in the area.

4/17-Water System notice. The Village has identified a problem in our main line supply. While the reservoir is full and will handle most supply needs, water customers living on North Hyde Park and Centerville Roads may experience low water pressure. The system should be restored in a few hours once repairs have been completed. Thank you

3/22-3/23 Wind Event. With last nights wind, we’ve incurred a significant line outage that will impact 3 customers in the area around the roundabout and Fitch Hill, though more had to deal with the initial event last night. Due to the need for some tree maintenance and pole rebuilding, putting the system back together will likely take most of the day Sunday. We have additional help coming in from Johnson Water and Light. We are very grateful for them. Thank you and stay safe as the winds are forecasted to continue blowing.

The Village of Hyde Park is planning for an August kick off of a new customer software platform. This new software will be a substantive upgrade of our abilities to assist customers as well as help office staff in our work processing. The software version we are looking to deploy is being used by other Vermont utilities and this move will put us on par with them. Between now and then, our staff will be going through training sessions which will delay some customer service needs. Please understand that if you leave us a message we will get back to you and we will work with each of you on your needs. If you have any questions, you can email or call the office or email the Manager at [email protected]. Thank you

Electric Tariff Impacts

The Village of Hyde Park is closely monitoring the implementation of Canadian tariffs and evaluating the impact they may have on electricity prices. Vermont utilities rely on generation from Hydro Quebec for a portion of the state’s overall power supply. The Village has an entitlement of Hydro Quebec within its mix of power supply resources.

The implementation of tariffs on imports from Canada has caused some uncertainty as to whether they will apply to electricity entering the United States from Canada. While we await a determination on the applicability of tariffs to electricity, the Vermont utilities are working together with the state and VELCO to advocate on behalf of ratepayers and keep the lights on for all Vermonters. Though there are still many “unknowns” at this time, we are actively tracking the situation as it evolves.

In the event the tariffs do indeed apply to electricity purchased from Canada, the Village of Hyde Park will be obligated to pay for those charges within our existing revenues. It is important to note that while the utility's power supply costs could increase as a result of the implementation of the tariff, there will not be any immediate impact on customer bills. Vermont regulatory oversight does not allow for immediate rate changes on customer bills. The impact of the tariffs may be reflected in future rate cases.

Canada and Hydro Quebec are critical trade partners for the United States, Vermont, and Vermont utilities. We believe a strong cooperative relationship with our neighbor to the north is vital to ensuring affordable, sustainable, reliable power for our customers. We will continue to foster collaboration with our partners, despite any challenges these tariffs may present.
