Lifeline Youth and Family Services

Lifeline Youth and Family Services We envision a world where those who face great challenges realize their vast human potential. We believe people can change their lives. Making a positive impact.

LifeLine Youth and Family Service is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, providing an array of support services to improve the health and quality of life among African Immigrants, men, women, youths, and refugees in Massachusetts. That’s what LifeLine is all about. We help youth overcome emotional, behavioral, and educational issues through a variety of services – each one using our effective treat

ment philosophy. We nurture. We encourage. We challenge. We empower not only the child, but the whole family. And we provide the skills needed to live more productive and fulfilling lives. Welcome to LifeLine, where change is for good. Why Community Based Organizations are Important

For over 5 years LifeLine has been providing advocacy, health awareness, job training, citizenship classes, after school programs and educational services to our community of African immigrants and refugees using a holistic approach. This approach lends itself to a deeper understanding and tolerance in our communities, bringing positivity and self- reliance to the forefront of people’s lives. We implement programs that allow people who have been through tremendous hardships to regain control of their lives. We instill the concept that people must be their own advocates because their issues are specific to their lives and people may not understand. The community we serve has many obstacles to overcome, including HIV/AIDS other health disparities, poverty, English as a second language, cultural differences, finding jobs in an unstable job market, and emotional trauma, as well as preserving the values and customs they deeply value. Our programs offer support and advocacy to ensure families will not have to endure all of these obstacles alone. Our multi-lingual strives for a high level of communication in order to understand and provide support.

Hello Friends,

Today is World AIDS Day, which provides the opportunity for people to unite globally in the fight against HIV. It is offers a moment to show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. It is a moment to take stock of how far this struggle has come in the past several years and to thank you for making this advance possible.

World AIDS Day is also the last opportunity for you to make a donation to our matching gift campaign at www.lifelineyouthusa.org.

In 2005, when Lifeline was first established, HIV in West Africa was viewed the same way that the disease had been in the United States in the 1980s. It was a death sentence with a cascading cultural impact. Women were often punished for contracting the disease. At a time when they were most in need of support, care, and loved ones, they were ostracized. Disowned by their family, friends, village, and community. Treatment was physically, economically, and socially out of reach.

A small group of thoughtful, committed citizens, many HIV-positive themselves, simply refused to accept that reality. They organized, together demanding access to healthcare, forming a community amongst themselves, and providing for each other. Their inspiring spirit of resistance and resilience gained support from myself and other volunteers, who were so moved by their cause that our two-year service stint became our lives’ work.

On this day, we take stock of how these actions created a cascading cultural impact that is now flowing the other way. Over this past year, Lifeline Youth & Family Services:

• Inspired people who are living with HIV/AIDS
• Counseled children and people living with HIV
• Provided lifesaving Support
• Increased awareness

This work could not have been possible without you. Your commitment, passion, and support made these accomplishments possible. Our work is far from done. By making a contribution today at www.lifelineyouthusa.org, you can help us help more people over the next four years.
Will you make a gift today?

Sincerely,
Lifeline Management

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Thanksgiving and each and every day of the year, I couldn’t be more thankful for the strength of this organization, the pride each of you have in the work we do, and the efforts that we make to build our organization and our community.

While many of us are able to take well-deserved time off to be with our loved ones, the brave men and women of the armed forces who are serving our nation in dangerous conditions far from home and still others, who are closer to home, may lack even the most basic needs and necessities. I hope you will join me in honoring this special holiday by rededicating ourselves to the cause of helping those in need and saluting those who keep us safe.

On behalf of myself, and the entire Lifeline Youth & Family Services Executive Board, I wish each and every one of our strong members and their families a safe, meaningful and enjoyable holiday.

With kind regards,

Lifeline Youth & Family Services.
