The Maryland-National Capital Park Police’s Potomac River Waterfront Unit joined forces with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s (PGPD) Marine Unit for tactical and response training off the shores of the National Harbor.

“Park Police is aware that the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland has released body worn camera footage from our officer involved shooting at Fort Washington Park. We support the release of the body worn camera footage because we recognize the public’s interest in understanding what occurred, and we also believe transparency helps maintain public trust.

Use of force incidents, especially deadly use of force, can be concerning and difficult to process. We remain committed to transparency and accountability throughout this investigative process.

This remains an ongoing investigation by the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland. To preserve the integrity of the investigation and to protect the rights of all parties involved, The Maryland-National Capital Park Police will have no further comment at this time.”

Events like this remind us of the strength we share when law enforcement and our neighborhoods work hand-in-hand to keep our parks and communities safe.

Over the past few weeks, our officers have enjoyed spending time at MNCPPC Summer Camps, sharing presentations, participating in activities, and building positive relationships with campers. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us…. Summers not over though.

🐾A Second Chance at Life 🐾

Today, Maryland-National Capital Park Police, PG Division officers responded after a concerned citizen reported witnessing an individual attempt to throw a cat from a moving vehicle while crossing the Woodrow Wilson bridge.

Thanks to the quick report from the citizen and the swift, compassionate response of our officer, the frightened cat was safely rescued without injury and is now receiving the care it deserves.

We commend the citizen for speaking up and our officer for taking immediate action to protect a defenseless animal. Acts of animal cruelty are taken seriously, and we encourage anyone who witnesses abuse or neglect to report it immediately!
