The Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division, recently hosted a five-week RAD (R**e Aggression Defense) course at the Southern Technology Center in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Throughout the course, participants learned practical self-defense techniques while also strengthening their confidence, awareness, and mindset—all critical elements that can increase the odds of survival if they are ever faced with an attack.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Sgt. Sherard, Sgt. Charles III, Cpl. Tucker, Cpl. Charles, Ofc. Thomas, and Ofc. Harriss for their dedication and assistance in making this an impactful and successful training for all participants.

Empowering our community through education and awareness is one of the many ways we work to keep our parks and neighborhoods safe.

👉 Would you be interested in attending a future RAD course? Let us know in the comments!

Last Saturday, we hosted the inaugural Park Police Trail Safety Day at the Potomac River Waterfront Trail in National Harbor.

The event was a tremendous success, made possible by our community, our partners, and everyone who came out to participate. We were excited to see cyclists, runners, and walkers enjoying the trail together.

This free event provided an opportunity to share important trail safety guidelines and tips to help ensure our parks remain safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all users.

-Always stay alert & aware of your surroundings.
-Keep right, Pass left!
-Keep pets on a short leash! (& clean up after them)
-Remember to Eat, Hydrate & Medicate! Before using the trails.

Thank you to everyone who supported this inaugural event. We look forward to seeing you next year!

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the 160+ miles of trails across the system.

Stay safe and enjoy the trails!
