At approximately 15:20 on 04/24/2026, Hurt Fire Department was dispatched to a mutual aid call involving an outside fire. Upon arrival, crews determined that additional manpower was needed. Units cleared at 20:33.

Units responding include: Renan Fire Department, Gretna Fire & Rescue, North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, Blairs Fire & Rescue, Riceville-Java Volunteer Fire Department, Altavista Fire Company, Gladys Volunteer Fire Department, Climax Fire Department, Pittsylvania County Public Safety 4, and Virginia Department of Forestry

Special thank you for the additional rehab provided to us by Domino's Pizza of Altavista and Peace of Pie Pizzeria.

Over the weekend, a few members from Station 31 participated in a mutual aid training exercise.

These drills strengthen our mutual aid response, build trust between crews and ensure that when the call comes- we’re ready to work side by side.

Great training, great teamwork, and a shared commitment to protecting our communities!

We would like to give a heads up on our Parking Locations for anyone planning on attending our 2026 Spring Car Show Fundraiser.
Pictured Below:
*Outlined in green will be event parking for all car show participants.
*Outlined in red will be spectator Parking for anyone coming to the show but not entering a vehicle.
*Outlined in orange, the lower lot of our department will be for Handicap parking and also event staff.
*Outlined in blue, the front parking lot of Hurt Elementary School will be used as trailer parking for anyone hauling a vehicle to the show.
