Thank you, Mayor Fawcett, for connecting with the Hurricane residents. I certainly appreciate your efforts to keep all of us "In the Loop!"
In the Loop – May 18, 2026
The City has begun chip seal and slurry seal road work in several areas. Residents should watch for notices, move cars off the street when crews are working nearby, and drive slowly on chip-sealed roads to avoid rocks damaging windshields.
I recently launched a monthly “Mayor’s Activity Day” to connect with residents in a relaxed setting. Last month’s event was a community hike, and this month’s activity will be a co****le gathering on Saturday the 23rd at 9 a.m. at the community center co****le pits. Community members are invited to attend, ask questions, and spend time getting to know the Mayor.
Seasonal dumpsters will be placed around town today and will remain available through Wednesday. They will be located at: 400 S 700 W, Dixie Springs Park, 750 N 200 W, the fire station at 445 N 3400 W.
Road construction on 700 West, between 400 South and State Street, is expected to begin on May 26th. Residents are encouraged to plan alternate travel routes as the City works to complete the project before school starts.
The City Council is also addressing long-standing drainage issues that have caused flooding during major storms. A new impact fee study has been completed so future growth can help fund drainage improvements in developing areas, but existing neighborhoods also require upgrades. To help pay for needed projects, the council is considering increasing the current $4 monthly drainage fee on utility bills to $11. More details, including project plans and funding priorities, will be presented at a future public hearing where residents can provide input.
If you have questions, concerns, or would like to discuss any of the topics mentioned, please contact the City Office on 435-635-2811, Ext. 111, to be directed to a staff member, a City Council member, or myself.
