In the Loop – June 1, 2026
I want to update everyone on some important projects and communication efforts happening in our community.

Construction on 700 West is now underway. We have tried to keep the road open while work progresses, but that is becoming increasingly difficult. As a result, 🚧700 West is a HARD CLOSURE🚧 from the bridge to State Street for approximately six to eight weeks. Please follow the posted detour routes and help keep both workers and motorists safe. We will do our best to reopen the road on Sundays to allow access to the chapel. Affected homeowners and businesses are in the process of being notified. I understand this creates an inconvenience, but completing the project before school starts requires this temporary closure.

I am also working to organize a series of town hall meetings in different areas of the City. These meetings will provide opportunities for residents to discuss concerns and priorities specific to their neighborhoods as well as citywide issues. In addition, we are moving toward a public hearing focused on drainage concerns.

The City will be implementing a new notification system that will allow us to quickly communicate important information such as road closures, water outages, power interruptions, shelter in place, and other major events. Notifications can be sent by phone, email, or text to specific neighborhoods or the entire community. The system will also allow residents to report concerns such as potholes, fallen tree limbs, and stray animals.

To take advantage of this service, please make sure the City has your current phone number, cell phone number, and email address on file. We will use the system thoughtfully and only when necessary, but it will be a valuable tool for keeping residents informed and improving communication throughout the community.

If you have questions, concerns, or would like to discuss any of these topics, please contact the City Office at 435-635-2811, Ext. 111, and you will be directed to the appropriate staff member, City Council member, or to me.

In the Loop – May 27, 2026

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day. I was grateful to participate in the sunrise service at the cemetery honoring our veterans, where around 100 people gathered to pay tribute. Seeing the graves decorated with flowers and flags was very meaningful.

Last Saturday, I also held my monthly community activity. While attendance was low, I still enjoyed spending time playing pickleball, practicing co****le, and visiting with local residents. These activities are a great opportunity for me to get to know members of the community and hear your concerns so I can better serve the city. I’ll begin posting future activities on the city website, and next month’s event will be pickleball, so bring your paddles and come join us.

I also want to remind everyone that construction on 700 West began yesterday. Traffic will likely be reduced to one lane, so please plan alternate routes, when possible, to help reduce congestion. Also note that Ash Creek SSD has a project going on 200 South between 300 West and 100 West that will likely take most of June to complete. Please be patient, aware, and help everyone stay safe with traffic patterns changing and delays.

Finally, as we continue facing drought conditions, I encourage everyone to conserve water and avoid unnecessary waste so we can meet our community’s needs throughout the summer. Thank you, and I hope everyone has a wonderful summer.
If you have questions, concerns, or would like to discuss any of the topics mentioned, please contact the City Office on 435-635-2811, Ext. 111, to be directed to a staff member, a City Council member, or myself.

The Hurricane Police Department is excited to welcome four new officers to our team! Help us congratulate Officer Harris, Officer Tanner, Officer Rydalch, and Officer Sowards as they begin serving our community.

They’re bringing heart, dedication, and a real commitment to keeping Hurricane safe. We’re grateful to have them here and can’t wait for everyone to meet them.

Let’s give them a big Hurricane welcome as they start this new chapter with us. 💙👏
