California gun storage laws require fi****ms to be stored in a locked container or with a DOJ-approved locking device (like a cable or trigger lock) when not on your person or under your immediate control, with stricter rules expanding statewide in 2026 under SB 53.

You must prevent unauthorized access, especially by children, and can face misdemeanors or felonies for violations, particularly if a child gains access and causes harm. Secure storage options include DOJ-approved safes, cable locks, and trigger locks, with specific rules for unattended vehicles.

Through a partnership between the Huron Police Department and Project Childsafe, free cable locks are available at the Huron Police Department. If you are interested in one, you may come into our lobby and make a request at the front desk.

Recently the Huron Police Department experienced the loss of several officers in a very short time span as they sought opportunities with other law enforcement agencies. This is not new as all law enforcement agencies experience officers pursuing other opportunities. Unfortunately for us, this loss of officers take place at the same time other officers were taken off work as a result of injuries sustained while arresting a violent and combative individual.

To ensure continuity of public safety services, we contacted the Fresno County Sheriff's Office and asked for their assistance in covering patrol functions while we hire and train new officers. The agreement reached between the Sheriff's Office and the City of Huron ensures that the community while continue to receive law enforcement public safety services without interruption in the time it takes for the hiring and training to take place.

This agreement is temporary and we expect to have the Police Department fully staffed, trained, and back to providing full services in approximately 90 days.

Driving and/or parking in a bicycle lane is generally illegal and can also be dangerous. Driving or parking in a bicycle lane forces cyclists into traffic and may result in fines, points on your driving record, increased insurance rates, and having your vehicle towed.

Please be aware of these designated bicycle lanes and watch for bicyclists.
