Last week, our Summer Assistant, Eva Krall, teamed up with the Hurley School District Kid’s Club students for some seriously delicious hands-on programming!

Here is a look at what our awesome groups cooked up:

The Younger Group: Celebrated the season by building edible palm tree scenes! They engineered their tropical masterpieces using bananas for trunks, grape halves for leaves, mandarin oranges for the ground, and a little bit of plain yogurt as their "glue." 🌴

The Older Group: Stepped into the kitchen science lab to make their own homemade butter! Using just heavy whipping cream, salt, a 16 oz jar, and a lot of muscle power, they shook their way to a tasty reward. The best part? Getting to taste-test their creation on Ritz crackers afterward! 🧈

Huge thanks to Eva for planning such creative, engaging (and tasty!) activities for the kids. It’s safe to say everyone left with full bellies and new skills!

Today, AmeriCorps Member Ashley Basso led a fantastic day of garden programming with the Hurley School Kid’s Club!

She had two incredible groups of young gardeners join in on the fun:

🌱 12:00 – 1:00 PM: Twenty-nine K-3rd graders

🌱 1:00 – 2:00 PM: Fifteen 4th & 5th graders

Both groups kicked off their hour by watering the plant beds, then got creative painting signs for the fruits and vegetables they are planting. Spelling guides and picture cards helped guide their masterpieces!

Each session wrapped up with fresh apples, water, and a thorough cleanup—including hand washing, sanitizer, and tick checks. 🧼🐜

Thank you to Saint Maud’s for donating the wood for the signs.

Way to go Starr! Can't wait to hear how it went. 🍀❤️🖤🤍
